My website lost its rankings

I have small adult tube, it's two years old, it was among top 10 on Google and it was hit by some Google algorithm last year. I wanted to let domain expire, but six months ago it was on position 2 again. I didn't build more links and I didn't add new content.

But, after two months, it vanished again. I have a site on Webmaster tools and it doesn't have manual penalty.

How can I find out why site lost its rankings?

It's quite normal. Try to update the site with fresh content and build niche related backlinks.

I'll do that, thanks.

I am using Plugrush popunders on my site, could this be a reason for drop in rankings?

....my Alexa went from 200 K to 400 K in 6 months....I have new content, more good back links,,business is good...so somebody in Alexa is playing tricks...

On my 2 key words I am still on p1 Google with a small change on p2. No significant change there.

I think i will stop dealing with this shit and rather make more orig. content.

Work on it and it will come back.

Recently from last 2 weeks many people saw drop in organic traffic because of rumoured Google update. Check your spam score and remove all the spammy backlinks from your website.

Did your real visitor count go down too, or only the Alexa ranking?

I've seen this for some adult sites lately. Alexa dropping despite visitors staying the same or even rising.

I keep saying this but I'll say it again.

Alexa does not know how much traffic you have. It just takes a rough guess based on (as far as I can tell) your inbound links, the number of pages on your site, and the keywords it can find that you rank for. The smaller your site, the rougher the guess.

Well they have way more data than that. They pull real world data from all the users of the Alexa toolbar, and supposedly lots of other browser extensions. Then they use that sample data to estimate the total amount of visitors -- not unlike how election polls work.

They might even use some more data from other sources - from different devices, routers, DNS servers? Who knows. After all they have Amazon behind them now.

As you said, the less visitors the site has, the less accurate the ranking will be. (Unless you actually give them access to your site's data.)

Anyway, what my post was about is that they might have changed their algo that calculates their rankings lately, which seems to have had a negative effect on many adult sites that didn't lose any traffic in reality.
