The wymens and water is the cleanest in the world.

Well, except for the great lakes because of the toxic waste dumped into it by Americans.

How cold does it get there? Major cities close to the US Border... not way up north.

US President does not write letters.

They pre-empt my favorite soap opera [General Hospital] to show a man landing on an air craft carrier in full flight gear trying to pass off his corn cob up the ass walk, as the gear cramping his package.

Who cares.

But his popularity ratings hit 70%.

Anyhoo, his Dad sent me a letter when I wrote White House years ago, its all template letters with rubber stamp signature.

WOo, that was worth the wait.....

Go Canada.

sorry, that was the 90's baby. The healthcare system is a complete fuckup thanks to the idiot-savant running this bitch.

You think 18 months on the waiting list for an MRI and other serious diagnostic tests is good?

Uhh... sure, a global health insurance program for all citizens would be great if it actually worked. I heard their public health insurance system blows ass and you'll only get good health care if you have private insurance. We'll have to ask a Canadian for verification though...

That's really weird. They have people on staff to handle that stuff. You should have gotten a letter back, I know several people who have. I've never written the President, but have written a few Senators and received a letter back fairly quickly.

I have only written the President and Vice President... I think maybe a couple of Reps from our state... And still, after almost a year.... nothing!

canada seems to be taking the right approach to this. people need to realize that if they want to 'fight' and effective war on drugs you need to treat it like a health care issue, not a criminal one. marijuana won't destroy your life. and if you think it has or know someone who you think it has i say it's bullshit. their life was ruined before weed. :winkwink:

Yo Adrian 05-05-2003 12:18 PM

Well that sucks with healthcare...I thought you guys up north had that shit wired down...

While living in Denmark I was amazed at the healthcare system...talk about a well oiled machine

Mutt 05-05-2003 12:18 PM

gruffy is right - the medical system is now in tatters. sure it's great if you're a 20 year old kid with little income, who tears up a knee playing hoops, no problem. Waiting lists for scans, operations, etc but you will get good treatment and nobody will ask u for a penny.

It's falling apart at the top end, and for somebody who works hard, pays the ridiculous Canadian taxes, if you get really sick, need the best the medical world can give you - realize that you are getting the equivalent of care that a county hospital in the United States delivers to the poor.

for relatively healthy people it's a great system, abused like no other medical system in the world, people running to the doctor every time they bump their head on a cupboard door or they just 'don't feel good'.

You lived in Denmark? How did you mamage that? Just a visitor that stayed or actual resident for a while?

I would love to move to Amsterdam. The process looks difficult to become a resident there.

Elli 05-05-2003 12:22 PM

Vancouver is THE best city I've been to, and i've travelled quite a bit. The closest comparison I found is Austin, TX. Beautiful city, with lots of trees and birds and stuff. Sure, there are bad things. Like the occasional gang violence, shitty health care, high taxes, but to me it's totally worth it. Get this: world-class skiing is 60 minutes from my house, the beach is 10 minutes away. We get about one snowfall a winter in town, and it's gone within a few days. Winter average is about 5C during the day, and summer average is about 22C during the day. How sweet is that? You do grow webbed toes, though. :)

There are some problems with the health care system but overall it's a lot better than having to pay for everything that goes wrong withn you. I've heard some major horror stories from US webmasters. The big problem with stuff in Canada is that you have to wait for some things. Mind you I've never had a problem with anything at all and never had to pay a penny for anything, so in my books global health insurance is awesome.

I know some people who managed to do it.. but if it wasn't being a fucking wicked chronic it would have been something else (booze, etc etc).

Cops aren't liking the idea because their convictions for drug offenses will go down and they will have to start going after real drug problems.

They want the nice conviction records they have to start taking out crack / coke dealers. Totally different game then just looking up hydro records and emptying out an abandoned grow house.

That's just not true. Both my parents are seniors and they have quite a few major health problems and they receive excellent care. If they were in the US they'd probably have to sell their house to get the care they get up here.

Bah.. lots of US cops love big take downs. Lots of killing and shooting to be had on a drug bust.

Here if they pull their weapon out it's a half hour of paperwork.

The US Ambassador to Canada has recently issued a thinly veiled threat that if Canada decriminalizes pot, there will be economic reprecussians to the country by the US Gov't. They are angry at the direction we are headed in.

Of course they are... that means all the propaganda they spit at us on TV will mean nothing. Make them look like liars. As I told the PM of Canada... they have my 100% support.

Excellent... Have a good one. I used to live in Venice California... Westminister and Speedway.... Beach was about 300 yards from my place, I miss that. No beach in the Arizona Desert.

Talk about have to wait in line for your health care, they even postpone births! I'd rather pay for my surgery than have to wait in line and be in pain because the government controls my medical health care.

fuck that.

?A Canadian can purchase a CAT scan for his or her pet, but they can?t purchase a PET scan for themselves,? said Pipes, who shows how lengthy delays for surgery in Canada leave patients desperate and often in pain.

Lessons from the North charts how waiting times from general practitioner to treatment have increased by seven weeks, from 9.3 weeks in 1993 to 16.2 weeks in 2000-01. ?One Ottawa hospital has even rationed the delivery of babies,? said Pipes.'

rationing the delivery of babies?
