Why would the United States want to cause any harm to Europe? We've been close allies for over sixty years now.

it is not meant to harm europe physically.
meant is the power of the europen union what have already a bigger economic power than the US. the ex-number one US is now only number 3 after china and the europen union - there is no debate in that.

BUT

this is because the EU was before a bunch of small countries that got their economic power with this union. same as the US is not only california or new york.
it is a bunch of states in a union and the same thing is happening in europe.

and no.2 reason is the huge growth of china.
but china is also a buying power today even when the single individual is poorer than in europe and the US - they are near to 2 billion.

this is what trump does not understand, that if he eliminates the economic power of these countries it does not bring benefits to the US is brings only less exports.

the EU is also not really wanted from putin as he can make deals with small countries much easier and with the well known corruption. in a union where 28 countries are watching that it is impossible.

so the EU is not really liked from trump and not from putin.
and both are trying to break the EU with their populistic fake news war.

The EU remains such a larger economic power than Russia. I doubt yours and his nonsense can change that despite trying to maneuver public opinion to that degree and self destruct these relationships.
