Damn well at least you enjoy it. Both Savage - The Battle for Newerth and Savage Skies look kind of crappy to me.
|
Looks like a cool game, I've been trying to avoid games lately, too addictive.

looks great,
congrats marc |
ry0t - thankfully for us you are in the major minority. We've been getting much anticipated previews and our beta testers are going nuts over the game.
We should peel off a good $25 million off this game :) The video game industry is HUGE! |
how many units does a popular video game sell? what is the avg wholesale price the manufacturer gets from distributors?
and what are the average development costs of a video game? is it for PC only or will it also be a Playstation and XBox game? i know shit about videogames, bowed out of it all before the 32 and 64 bit consoles came out. |
So all of your ARS webmasters will be getting a free copy of the game, right? :Graucho

Marc,
That's awesome. Hope you guys kick-ass with this and I hope you whup-ass on that $25 million. :-) |
Well the sales figure is assuming we become a 'mainstream' title in the PC realm, but VERY obtainable (sorry wasn't trying to brag, hope it didn't come off that way).
Thanks for all the congrats guys and I actually think that sounds like a good promotion. All 'active' ARS webmasters will get a free copy! You bet... Hold me to it. Mutt, I own the company that is publishing the title (iGames which also owns HappyPuppy.com). This is a major advantage to me. In marketing and production we'll have $3,000,000 invested. Retail is $49.99 and wholesale is $34 (our cut). To become an elite PC title you need to sell 1.5 million copies, huge seller 1 million, pretty strong seller 500,000, just made it to market and tried to break even 200,000 (still profitable). There are other costs associated with the sale that are taken from the $34 wholesale (production is usually $3 per unit, freight is about $0.50 per unit, and the big one MDF or Market Development Funds which you spend with stores like EB, GameStop, Best Buy, etc...) We've got 2 development firms we are signing at E3 which are console. The good thing about console is a great game will sell 3-4 million copies. Its a MUCH bigger market and therefore you should expect much more sales (especially since the competition is just slighter higher than PC). |
no Marc, i wasn't putting you down for bragging, i like to see porn guys make it in mainstream. I am just curious how the video game industry works, had no idea about what kind of numbers were involved, development/manufacturing costs vs potential revenues.
sounds lucrative, it's like the movie business, a bomb can sink a small company, a hit can make you rich. MDF or Market Development Funds <---------- is this like in the grocery store biz where you have to pay big retailers big $$$ to get prime shelf space? best of luck :thumbsup |
Marc, is this game built on the Q3 engine?
I'm planning on starting my own game company within the next year here in Vegas. |
weren't you guys responsible for HalfLife? :Graucho
|
Holy Kamoli! I just looked at Savage in depth on iGames.
Marc, that will be an astronomically huge seller. Great concept with the Primal theme. Refreshing from all the star wars type stuff in the market. Your graphics are gorgeous. $$$$$ ABSOLUTE HIT! $$$$$ Don't need to say Good Luck with that, you're already there! :thumbsup |
MrPheer - funny we are moving S2 Games offices from San Franscico to Las Vegas in September.
The game is built on a propietary engine we developed in house called the Silverback Engine. Its truly amazing and we will have leasing opportunities, so if you are looking to make a game, talk to us. Also, we could help you with the pubslishing aspects. Mutt - I didn't think you were dogging me :) Cuz we both know, if it does bomb, I'm out $3,000,000. However, I think we will easily sell 250,000 and look to hit 600,000 units sold. We will also be the first game to upgrade from the available FREE Test version of the game to retail through our automated patch software and credit card processing network. We're bringing a bit of our adult experience to the online gaming world! |

I think this thread needs to be bookmarked.... |
KRL - thanks a bunch!
Those we want to read about the game, the gamespy review is at http://www.gamespy.com/previews/may03/savagepc/ S2 Site / Savage Site - http://www.s2games.com iGames (Publisher Site) - http://www.igames.com Anna - hold it to me, I'm serious! You'll see something at ARS about it in a couple of months... |
I got into the Beta (thanks Marc) and the game plays great even at this stage.
It will be a killer game for LAN parties and organized clan. might be a little less interesting for casual gamers because of the need for team work. But eh, look at Counter-Strike, even 100 of thousands of dumbass 13 year old keyboard warriors didnt succeed in keeping it down ;p Even if it doesnt sell (but I think it will), its a major game with a very innovative design. Its a good thing ;) |
the game looks amazing, i'm hooked on 1942 but Savage seems to be right up my alley!!
