FBI accuses wealthy parents, including celebrities, in college-entrance bribery scheme
Authorities charged more than 50 people, like actresses Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin, March 12 with being part of a long-running college admittance scam.
https://www.krmg.com/rf/image_lowres...os/4611509.vpx The Justice Department on Tuesday charged 50 people — including two television stars — with participating in a multimillion-dollar bribery scheme that enabled privileged students with lackluster grades to attend prestigious colleges and universities. The allegations included cheating on entrance exams and bribing college officials to say certain students were athletic recruits when those students were not in fact athletes, officials said. Numerous schools were targeted, including Georgetown University, Yale University, Stanford University, the University of Texas, the University of Southern California and UCLA, among others. [Read the affidavit: FBI charges 50 in college admissions bribery scheme] In Boston, U.S. Attorney Andrew Lelling called it the largest-ever college admissions scam prosecuted by the Justice Department. Of the 50 people charged in the FBI’s Operation Varsity Blues, 33 were parents, officials said, warning that the investigation is ongoing and that others could be charged. The scheme was discovered accidentally by the FBI while working an unrelated undercover operation about a year ago, officials said. That tip led to a sprawling, nationwide corruption probe. These parents are a catalogue of wealth and privilege,” said Lelling. “This case is about the widening corruption of elite college admissions through the steady application of wealth combined with fraud. There can be no separate college admission system for the wealthy, and I’ll add there will not be a separate criminal-justice system, either.” No students were charged because prosecutors said their parents were the scheme’s principal actors. Court filings released Tuesday paint an ugly picture of privileged parents committing crimes to get their children into selective schools otherwise unlikely to accept them. Among those charged are actresses Felicity Huffman, best known for her role on the television show “Desperate Housewives,” and Lori Loughlin, who appeared on “Full House.” A representative for Loughlin declined to comment. A representative for Huffman did not return messages seeking comment. Huffman appeared in federal court in Los Angeles on Tuesday and was released on $250,000 bond. https://oilcity.news/wp-content/uplo...19-huffman.jpg Others arrested Tuesday include a private-equity executive in Northern California, a senior lawyer at a major law firm in New York and a public relations executive in Los Angeles. Prosecutors said they took part in a criminal conspiracy to bribe test officials and college sports officials. In the wake of the charges, universities began firing or placing on leave some of the accused coaches. The scheme’s chief architect, William Singer, pleaded guilty in federal court Tuesday. Officials described Singer as a well-connected college admissions adviser and say he disguised the bribery scheme as a charity, enabling parents to deduct the bribes from their taxes. https://media.wowktv.com/nxs-wowktv-...0_1280_720.jpg https://www.washingtonpost.com/world...6b 1d1219d1d3 |

T-x until Hollywood turns this into a movie as the circle of life continues. |
Nothing new.
Trump donated millions to Penn State months before Trump Jr. started attending there, same with Ivanka Trump. Clearly the stupid runs deep in that family. Trump donated $1.4 million and his kids each donated more as individuals. Records show that all three Trump children who went to Penn have donated to the University before attending | The Daily Pennsylvanian |
All these years and years of our govt letting white collar criminals off with a easy slap on the wrist has led to wide spread corruption at every angle money can be involved. They need to start throwing the book at these people who think they can do anything because they are rich..
Look at Paul Manafort as example got 4 years for that 1st crime where he should have faced close to 20. If that had been some low income white, black or Hispanic guy with a history of defrauding people he would be sitting in jail 20 years because he's poor. They need to start throwing the book at these rich people doing white collar crimes to put the fear into them.. as it is they all just figure they can do anything.. |

Did anyone in Enron ever serve time? All the banks that got bailed out did anyone go to jail? Wells Fargo creating all those fake accounts with real customers social security numbers and IDs did anyone go to jail? All three credit reporting agencies had data breaches where everyone's information was stolen did anyone go to jail? No What white collar crimes have gone to jail recently, outside of the Mueller investigation? Bernie Madoff. Why did Bernie Madoff go to jail? Because he ripped off other really rich people. |

buying a library or a new roof for a dorm is the traditional way for a rich person to get their kids in. what these parents did is to cheat on exams and have college admins lie about the kids athletic achievements. sorry you hatred for Trump has made you unable to see the difference, but I like how you try to make it all about him. he is living rent free in your brain and is still your president. btw, prove you are a real person, like how I did when you asked and I posted pix of me in real life at a trade shows with other industry people. who has met you in real life? NO ONE. go away. you bring NOTHING to the table. |

When the FBI showed up to arrest these celebrities, did they bring guys in tactical gear and a television crew like they did with Roger Stone?
Where is the video? They said that shit was routine. |
They are rich but not rich enough to donate millions or pay for a new building to get their kids in.

Aren't these the same type of people who would tell us how we should be living our lives? And then they turn around and do shit like this? Maybe the old saying really is true...
https://cdn.someecards.com/someecard...M0Y2NjYzkx.png I think the real victims here are the people of color, gender, and preference who would have been admitted, had the spots for enrollment been available. I suppose a red flag that may have brought this case to light was when Lori's daughter admitted she didn't care about school and had little interest in the academics. And this is a uni that people have to walk through fire to even be considered to be accepted in. Throw the book at all of them. No sympathy. The full jail house is about to get a little bit fuller. |

It's college fault. They have made education so out of means; that you have to take big loan to get graduate from college.
Don't forget home loan coming up in future. |
how is it that you morons are politicizing this? Is this a 'dem' thing? is this a 'rightwing' thing?
It's rich people bribing their way into getting their kids into the best schools thing. How this is a problem all of a sudden is beyond me. There's no right or wrong way to do it. They either allow bribes or they don't. Sharp shooting who they pay and how they grease the system is splitting hairs. |

Well, now the curtain is lifted and we see a glimpse of how underhanded and corrupt these same moral saints actually are, when behind closed doors. Its clear those people never had any moral standing to berate others for living morally inferior lives compared to them. I don't know what's not to understand. It should be quite simple and obvious. https://i2.wp.com/www.mikerindersblo...-dimension.png |
