Why Old-Fashioned, Over-the-Air TV Is Booming
I wonder what kind of shit I would get into if I started broadcasting smut over the airwaves and how could I make money from it.
--- Why Old-Fashioned, Over-the-Air TV Is Booming About one in seven American households is watching old-fashioned, over-the-air television broadcasts, an increasingly appealing choice for former cable customers who have “cut the cord” but still want to catch up with their local news and network stations. The new data from market research firm Nielsen shows that over-the-air viewing increased to 14% of all homes last year from 9% in 2010. At the same time, the percentage of households subscribing to cable or satellite TV peaked at 88% in 2010 and has since sunk to 79%, according to surveys by the Leichtman Research Group Free Broadcast TV Appealing To More Cord Cutters | Fortune |
Its because cable has like 3 good channels total and netflix sucks balls with its production...why pay for this shit?

I don't have cable but I do have a 50 mile radius Mohu Leaf. The thing is incredible. Picks up about 30 different channels, good ones, too. And the picture is just unbelievable, I don't even have a 4k TV.

The article says that over the air viewing increased from 9% to 14%. That means that at best, 86% of people watch TV the modern way, via the Internet, or possibly the older way of Cable and Satellite TV. Chasing 14% of a market could be interesting but you would have to find something they really want to buy that is related to the whole cord-cutting thing.
In Montreal, CFCF shut down its analog signal to Channel 12 and broadcast in digital on channel 51 until August 31 2011 when it moved it to Channel 12. This means that you need an Digital HD Antenna and a decoder. This isn't "old fashioned TV" so I don't know why the article has that title exactly... They are right though - Cable is too expensive and the content sucks. The best thing to do now is to switch to pure Internet TV. Download Netflix and the Bell Fibe App to your smart TV or tablet and you can have all of the channels and content you want for far less than cable. |
I get a few channels of over the air digital, sometimes I watch TV news on there. It's a good complement to Netflix and YouTube.
