I will NEVER drink and drive again..EVER!

I stopped by my local pub last night to play some pool and met some old friends. If I am going to drink I'll take a cab there, last night I did not. With 7-8 beers in me (4 hours) the place closing I had to leave. I live about 3 miles away and was afraid to take the chance, but I did.

About a mile towards home I see red/blue flashing lights behind me. I'm FUCKED! Right away I knew what this would mean, a night in jail, $10-15 thousand, the embarrassment, who's going to walk my dog? ...FUCK!!!

Cop walks up and asks...do you know why I pulled you over? "No sir" I said. Your left tail light is out..where are you going? ...FUCKED...I'm going home officer...can I see your license and registration please... (at this point I am imagining the cold jail cell...calling my sister in near horror) I give him the info while holding my breath so he cannot smell my breath. I'm FUCKED. "Wait here he says".

After about 5 minutes of waiting and contemplating the feeling of complete failure he returns gives me back my license back and says..."Make sure you get that fixed today..OK".

Perhaps it was because it was 5 degrees hurting cold this morning in NY, or my driving record was clean, but I made it home to write this. This scenario will NEVER happen to me again.

Thanks for letting me share. (Can't do this on Facebook)

A close shave indeed. While I was expecting a joke, it appears you have learnt a lesson from it. Good luck in the future.

Man you should come back to this thread every couple of months and read your advice again. I learned the hard way, and like you, will never do it again. Fukin Brutal laws where I live. Glad you made it unscaved.

driving after that many beers is very unsafe for you and others on the road.

DeadFidel 03-07-2019 05:52 AM

I keep replaying the moments in my mind... so close to getting hurt REAL bad! Not a joke...my life at stake.

I've done it myself in the past - Not proud, bt its happened. When I got home (without being stopped) I've thought to myself 'What the hell was I thinking?'

Bullshit about being responsible when you just told us how much you drank and then drove home. Take a damn cab.. Your car will still be there tomorrow and you can either get a ride there or take another cab to pick it up.

When I lived in AZ I went to the bar 5 days a week and I always took a cab to and from the bar.

When I was a kid I had an older friend that worked at Long John Silvers a fish and chips place that also sold beer. I took the bus and met him there as he was closing up at night and I had half a glass of beer , he had a full glass. I was wasted. We got in his car and he started driving, then I realized he was driving on the wrong side of the road. It took some effort to convince him of this, then he finally got it and swtched to the right lane. That experience scared the FUCK out of me and I've never driven after drinking. Ever. I don't drive after smoking pot either (on the rare occasions I do). That close call at that young age permanently etched in my brain that I could die if I drove drunk.

there's a cool service here - which is even cheaper than a taxi cause they don't fall under that law: 2 Guys come with a car, one of them drives you home in your car and the other follows and then they take off again together.

Russian taxi companies offer this service. You just inform dispatch that you need someone to drive your car.
