Russian Food.

Wow they eat hedgehogs in Russia? Nasty!
|
That meat there is from beef lips, not hedge hogs.

I've seen it both in the markets and in people homes in Latin America.
That is one I haven't tried yet. But I have ... beef tripe (stomach lining) in soups, and sweet breads (throat gland) boiled and pan fried. If you ever have eaten a hot dog, look up what the "meat" is really made of. It's everything but. |

Do People Eat Hedgehogs? - Marx Foods Blog Yes, it’s true, people really do eat hedgehogs! According to Larousse Gastronomique, hedgehog was commonly consumed in 16th century France, but now “it is eaten only by gypsies, who either roast it or stew it.”1 Apparently the preferred method is to wrap the hedgehog in wet clay before roasting or stewing. As the clay hardens it adheres to the hedgehog’s quills, and pulls them out when removed. |

2) Not only Caucasus, but also Asian and Middle Eastern. Lots of dishes came here form Arabic countries as well as from Turkey , Mongolia, China, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Afghanistan etc. 3) Not only Asian, but also Scandinavian countries. 4) Not only Scandinavia, but also Middle and Western Europe, such as Germany, Poland (yes, Poland), France, Italy, Greece etc. Russia is a Word's biggest country which is located in a half of Europe and in the big part of Asia (before 1867 it was a part of North America as well). In contrast to the USA, it's a very old country. So it was like a huge cauldron where various people, traditions and course national dishes were mixing during 1000 years. |

Many dishes that Russians consider traditional have foreign origins.
1) Potato. Russians cook lots of dishes with it, but the origin of potato is North America, which was a part or Russia in the past. These are very traditional Russian dishes made of potato: http://www.calorizator.ru/sites/defa...ecipe/3085.jpg http://domavar.ru/images/staty/130505092005.jpg http://v.img.com.ua/b/600x500/f/28/2...25c69ba28f.jpg https://www.gastronom.ru/binfiles/im...7/bcb3dacf.jpg http://moll4all.ru/images/vtoroe/reb...shkoi-foto.jpg https://s1.eda.ru/StaticContent/Phot...182733/p_O.jpg https://s2.eda.ru/StaticContent/Phot...175437/p_O.jpg 2) Shashlik (aka shish kebab). It came to Russia from Caucasus and every Russian considers it a part of national cuisine. https://rockbargarage.ru/wp-content/...1%8B%D0%BA.jpg 3) Pelmeni. Famous Russian palmeny have came here from China. http://f.vkusnota.kz/recipes/019/551/pelmeny1.jpg 4) The same applies to Russian lapsha which also has Chinese roots. http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-gKE8gESwps...0/DSC08419.jpg 5) Makaroni. There are 100's of ways to cook 'em in Russia. But in fact Makaroni are well-known Italian pasta. https://static.1000.menu/img/content...0454_1_max.jpg https://www.gastronom.ru/binfiles/im...4/b5c63d06.jpg 6) Bilyash and Sheburek. These came into Russian cuisine from Turks (Tatars, Bashkirs etc). http://recepti-s-foto.ru/pics/beliashi-0.jpg https://img.povar.ru/main/bf/bc/0c/d...ash-397293.jpg https://sovkusom.ru/wp-content/uploa...b1-840x440.jpg 7) Shawarma (aka doner kebab), which origin is Turkey. http://pirogeevo.ru/wp-content/uploa...sloviyah-2.jpg 8) Rice porridge. I don't even know where it is from originally. But it's a part of Russian cuisine. https://www.gastronom.ru/binfiles/im...0/b1689577.jpg 9) Kefir. A very healthy Russian drink which was invented on Caucasus. http://www.sq.com.ua/img/news/2018/08/31/kefir.jpg 10) Salted herringa. This one has came from Scandinavia. https://st3.depositphotos.com/144523...ings-stone.jpg 11) Sauerkraut and braised cabbage. These could be invented here or came from Germany. https://s1.webspoon.ru/receipts/2012...5289_0_xxl.jpg 12) Potato vodka. This one has came from Poland I guess, because classic Russian vodka is made of wheat only. Polish potato vodka is as different to Russian one as Bourbon is different to Whiskey. https://winestreet.ru/off-line/article/1483/2.jpg etc... So when you are talking about Russian kitchen, open the World's map and look where Russia is located and which countries it has borders with. |
