Somebody Gave Me $10 Cash - What A Pain In The Ass...

New Zealand is as close as you will currently find to a cashless society. I fucking love it I have to admit. I lose real cash every time I put my hand in my pocket. In fact I'm famous for it.

Even my own mother stands behind me waiting for dropped notes to flutter to the ground while I fumble around searching for 50 cents.

In NZ you just wave your card at a machine and walk away - 2 seconds at most.

I have deactivate my card for TAP usage. I dont like the use of it, they dont require NIP to use the card when purchase something.

They have had it here for ages as well - I only moved back a few months ago and it is so far ahead of Europe where I was before...

They tend to use NZ as a test ground for tech as we are a small country, wealthy and English speaking with a good education system.....

10Gb household fiber later in the year in some areas - What the fuck you could use it for I have no idea...

Yeah I don't like it.

They used to make you memorise your 4 digit pin here. Then all of a sudden, you don't need a pin, and can buy goods for the value of £30 with each transaction. So basically if someone finds your card, they can spend quite a bit on it before you even noticing.

Why even bother having a pin number then ? Pointless if you ask me. All to save people a few extra seconds in their "oh so busy" lifestyles...

I have to pay someone to rake my yard.
I doubt he accepts credit cards on his rake apparatus.
I will have to go get cash to pay him.

:2 cents:

Put your cards on your phone, problem solved :)

I haven't carried a credit card for a year or more, tap and go works with NFC on the phone.

I have just set that up and it seems to work - I am still carrying cards though just in case...

I always take cash from an atm. No need for big brother watching me what i am doing.
But nowadays in Holland you need it for paying for parking spaces.

Wells Fargo has been down all day. Lots of people wishing they still went cash…

I've been considering going back to cash for walking around money, restaurants, etc. Throwing down cash is much faster than waiting to pay with credit card.

brassmonkey 02-07-2019 08:29 PM

if you drop that card... jeez don't keep much on there

GAMEFINEST 02-07-2019 09:37 PM

I only fuck with credit cards man!

Depends on which European country... many have it for years as well. Generally called "Contactless".
I think it's the same approach in Europe btw, they often test the newest stuff in smaller countries.

https://newsroom.mastercard.com/eu/p...w-contactless/

Quote:

New research from Mastercard supports the undeniable rise of contactless usage across Europe with a 97% increase in contactless transactions year-to-date. In more than 15 key European markets – including Denmark, Croatia, Greece, Hungary, Netherlands, Poland, Russia –contactless in-store transactions are already above 50%.

...

The recent data also shows that European countries are dramatically shifting their consumer behaviour to embrace contactless technology with some countries, such as Poland a.o., leading the way, where contactless transactions are over 80% year-to-date.
Anyway I agree it's good stuff, very convenient.
