No worse.

Enforcement happens at the browser level, it's baked into browsers, initially Chrome but Firefox and Safari will follow.

The browser blocks all ads on your site - every single ad - until you become compliant with the Better Ads Standards.

We're going to see a lot more of these threads in the next few weeks.

i read article, where exoclick and adsterra said , they are prepared for this .

so i guess, i am just a small fish. there are bigger players e.g. popunder buyers , they need to worry too.,

i guess in the end, it will improve banner ad ecpm., if google suceeds to stop all popunders/

NoWhErE 01-10-2019 11:18 AM

Honestly, it sucks that browsers are trying to take away popunders and other sources of ads. We'll have to adjust.

Google has been after aggressive advertisers for awhile now.

3xmedia 01-10-2019 11:29 AM

I still get popups on all the biggest porn tubes and they should be blocked with Chrome 64 already.

I don't see how popunders will survive 2019.

It's not just Google, everyone is blaming Google but Google were dragged kicking and screaming into Better Ads.

That was going to happen but there was a reprieve, there was an agreement to delay enforcement until the release of the Better Ads interim standards. Those popups will go away quite soon.

Initially people will find workarounds, but in a fight between big tech companies and publishers, the big tech companies will win.

There is always a counter measure to a measure :) Oh and btrw, mobile redirect format still exists, not so big as it used to be but it does.

no not only popunder revenue - no target _blank link is opening also banners are affected.

it can also be caused by banners that are not CFBA compliant causing this.

but this was announced more than a year ago.

and yes there are ways to keep at least a part of this revenue

google is the founder of better ads coalition.
I think this is their first step to go against adblockers.

actually we had 20-30 sites in out network that have had this issue.
with our solution ALL of them got reapproved (and pops have been active in the approval process) but with around 30% less revenue on pops.

there is always a way but I i hate this cat and mouse game and agree that pops will not have a big future. maybe 2-3 years we can still count with revenue.

EddyTheDog 01-10-2019 02:55 PM

I'm not sure how much the big Tubes make from pops but I suspect it is a fair % - They will feel it for sure...

Have they said they will punish you by screwing with your SERPS as well? - That really would screw sites like PH.....

Yes the key is to have them less aggressive , not remove them completely. And from MB POV that is actually good for me as conversions are far better on sites which pop less/annoy user less.

You can calculate that pretty easily by ordering traffic for one day :upsidedow

Yes they have you lose rank with an abusive experience site.

no rankings are not affected but as they block every link on the site that opens in a new window (what actually all banners are doing) it is not only the pop revenue that is missed.

I have seen a lot of blocked sites out there as there are still webmasters thinking they should not have ANY google account (no analytics and no search console).

but google will inform a website owner ONLY in the search console account and this is also the only way to ask for send the side to re approve.

you canīt be such a small fish as this is not an automated thing.

all sites that get this problem are checked by a human.
if you look in the search console you will even find videos and screenshots where you can see what exactly they did.

the biggest I have seen so far had 1 hour videos attached.

i saw that video, and it looked like it was automated task .

open url in headless browser , click any non hyperlink area, check what happens , if new pop opens then its abusive else its good

what if i dont show popunders for google bot. ?

i have seen sites whoose ads got blocked by this., the site was very useless , as webmaster didnt bother to fix the code, every link was dead , as it was trying to open new window., hornbunny is the site.

if google start enforcing this then , there will be more banbers than ever and there will be sites with js crypto miners.

ill go with js crypto mining then., why the fuck google has to decide popunders are bad.

its like big ad agency's are lobbying against popunder , becuase they are loosing reveue becuase of adblock users.

i know, but site gotta earn some way.

freecartoonporn 01-10-2019 09:58 PM

so basically all embed tubes aka cj tubes are fucked.

becuase when surfer clicks on player, it opens a new window to the main site. buhahahaha.

i would love to see what happens.,

.i am about to start cj tube aka embed tube.

wish me luck

freecartoonporn 01-10-2019 09:59 PM

I make money with both my TGP sites and Blogs just out of banner ads. No popups, no tricky shit, just normal ads, served by an ad server across my network.

Would I make more if I had popups or popunders? Sure. Are my sites profitable? Yes mostly. Given that my sites make some cash and I don't want to piss off surfers then why be greedy?

That's the way I look at it anyway.

as i said it is not the google bot - not even an IP that leads to google.

thatīs what i say - many webmaters donīt even care or have a search console account or even look there.

it was not even good money when cryptos had value.
and it uses users CPU what makes the site slow.
away from that they are detected fast by any security.

makes ZERO sense and kills the most valuable on a site: the returning customer

Quote:

it is not google that think that. users are thinking that.

popblockers are in every browser since many years. to open a popunder and go around an active blocker is only possible with dirty tricks. and those tricks are abusive.

its like big ad agency's are lobbying against popunder , becuase they are loosing reveue becuase of adblock users.[/QUOTE]

but this is exactly the point. there have been MANY legal fights against adblockers and not one of them was successful because they always had examples where every judge can understand that users want to block such a mess.

the was no definition for good or bad ads and this is what should happen with the coalition for better ads.
google ads are also blocked by adblockers and they are not a friend of them.

we are detecting MUCH less users with adblockers that are using chrome 64+ what means that you can see already a positive result.

in our special case (we are CPC not CPM) the new Google rules gave us a HUGE revenue increase - and as I said we also still using pops but in a way google accept them.

I would say that we lost around 25% in pop-revenue since march and won 40% with other solutions. so under the line a quite big plus and no reason to worry.

it depends WHAT google was complaining. we can run them individually on each site with many different options to execute the pop in many many different ways.

I donīt want to talk about details in public as you might understand. but as i said we run the pops normally til Google complains and adjust the pops in regards to the complain per domain. ALL sites with issues are still running pops and ALL are approved. they lost between 20-25% of revenue on pops but 75-80% of that revenue is still there.
