What SEO Research Tools do you Use?

I've used a number of SEO research tools over the years.

Ahrefs is the one I use most now.

Previously I've used:

Spyfu
Majestic SEO
Moz
Semrush

What are you using? What tier are you on? How much do you spend a month?

Moz and SEMrush are my favorites.

Never heard of Ahrefs, so why are you exclusively using that one now compared with others?

Moz stil have problems with their robot properly crawling domains that use HSTS.

SEMRush feels dated to me now, ahrefs which started as a backlink catalogue now has SpyFu like tools with a solid, easy to understand interface and good visuals to quickly assess data.

I pay $180 a month for ahrefs which is more than I was paying for SEMRush, but I do like it better.

Just Moz and probably not as much as I should.

Is there a free tool that I can use to check where a site is getting it's most traffic from?

xx

Not really one that's reliable.

There are tools which let you see traffic flow, they're not entirely inexpensive.

The way they gather data is through either browser extensions and statistical whizbangery or the more reliable ones buy anonymised data from network peers and network providers such as ISPs and Hubs.

Thank you. Are there any that will be not quite accurate but ok?

ahrefs will show you who is linking to them and which are the biggest traffic sites linking to them. However, that's different from knowing where most of the traffic comes from.
