This is the why the moment they say "fire" I start packing up my Jeep.

We had a fire here locally this past summer, one thousand acres. The moment the news broke I started watching it and listening in on the fire department as they called in more and more trucks. It was about ten miles from me but it was very flat terrain with just fields, so I was confident they would get it out... but I did go as far as to double check our go bags....

great idea I will ALWAYS have go bag packed in the future, get double medications on any meds you and your family uses as well

when I was an iron worker we stayed up in the iron until the lead man said it's time to go, no matter how windy or rainy or fucked up it was...that's how men are with each other in real life, in my experience.

if we was doing some scary stuff together, you and me, I'm the guy you want at your back. I ain't leaving, no matter what.

so I was waiting for them, the experienced people to make a decision, I would have been VERY concerned had I been there by myself. my understanding is they tried for a few hours to get someone up there. and we was pulled out early, 8am

up to me I would have driven down the back way... I was out voted... you can see the road plain as day in the chopper approach. I thought the entire episode was unnecessary myself.

but there was a question about rocks piled against the lower gate, the chopper was there so....

You got out that's all I'd be concerned about to be honest. Be it the helicopter ride or down the dirt road, regardless you got out.

I think there is gonna be a lot of people who didn't with this one.


As a interesting side fact, during WW2 Japan was sending giant balloons across the Pacific with
