President Donald Trump accused African-American reporter Yamiche Alcindor of asking a “racist” question on Wednesday.

At a White House press conference, the PBS reporter wondered if the president was concerned that he is sending the wrong message by calling himself a “nationalist.”

“Some heard that as emboldening white nationalists,” Alcindor explained. “There are some people that say that now the Republican Party is seen as supporting white nationalists because of your rhetoric.”

“Why do I have the highest poll numbers ever with African-Americans?” Trump retorted. “My highest poll numbers — that’s such a racist question, honestly. I know you have it written down and you’re going to tell me — that’s a racist question.”

“I love our country, I do,” the president continued. “I don’t mind helping the world but we have to straighten out our country first and our problems.”

Trump added: “But to say what you said is so insulting to me, it’s a very terrible thing you said.”

She insulted the President and he told her the truth...her question WAS racist. He explained exactly what he meant (which those of us who are not constantly thinking about race understood).

These reporters aren't interested in covering the President and the news. They are only interested in making "statements" and becoming the news themselves.

I saw the same exact press conference. How in the world is this an improper question. This is exactly what she asked:

"On the campaign trail you called yourself a nationalist, some people saw that as emboldening white nationalists" and then "Some people saw the Republican party is seen as supporting white nationalists because of your rhetoric..."

Both of these questions are racist, and both of these questions are perfectly valid. We have seen regular comments and statements where the President seems to support white nationalists - You know, "both sides have good people" even though "one side" drove a car into a crowd killing someone.

Face it Robbie. Trump is having a horrible day and he is taking out on random reporters because he doesn't want to answer questions. He got his ass kicked yesterday.

I've never heard anyone call themselves a "Nationalist". Nationalism is less about the promotion of one nation, and more about maintaining sovereignty of their country. Nationalism is about how a nation should govern itself, free from outside interference and is linked to the concept of self-determination. The United States has had this since the day it was formed. In fact, in the United States we use the term "Patriot" instead of "Nationalist" (but then again Trump surely cannot call himself a patriot being as no one in his entire family has served in the US military in the past two hundred years).

Here in the United States, if you call yourself a Nationalist most people would assume you mean "White Nationalist". Combine this with the fact that Donald seems to like white nationlists ("Both sides have good people"), you can understand where the issue is.

The reporter who asked the question was an unknown of reporter for a news program no one has ever heard of (PBS does news now?). She asked a perfectly legitimate that half of Americans want an answer to. It surely isn't a racist question. Donald could have quickly answered the question by saying "I support my country, but I do not support white nationalism in any form" and that would have been it.

Let's just be truthful here.... Donald spend the past month on the road holding rallies for people he doesn't like who won't support him, they lost the house, the subpoenas are going to fly, and investigations into Trump and his people will become the new normal. He was upset, pissed off, and lashed out at the press which is unacceptable.
