There's another forum (more of a fan based one) that I know of, where the mods have been noticeably absent for about 2 years. People complain they can't contact the mods for stuff etc and complain that its not being modded at all. But at the same time, as soon as a hint of underage appears, it disappears just as fast... So someone is looking in, even if they choose not to get involved.

The members that will be 'up in arms' about you 'spamming' as they call it, are the same ones who would never click a banner, so its win win . They end up drawing interest towards your site for you...
