Tourist-spot crash kills 18 in limo, 2 bystanders
Local officials told the Times Union of Albany that a limo speeding down a hill hit bystanders Saturday afternoon at the Apple Barrel Country Store in Schoharie, about 170 miles (270 kilometers) north of New York City.
State police confirmed Sunday the death toll and said the crash involved two vehicles. The store is a popular stop for tourists on fall foliage trips. Customers in the parking lot were killed when they were hit by the limo coming down a hill on state Route 30 at "probably over 60 mph," the store manager, Jessica Kirby, told The New York Times . In a Facebook post on Saturday, the store thanked emergency responders for their actions. The store posted Sunday that it was open "and could use your hugs." Witnesses described chaos, with a massive turnout of ambulances and other responders. "I heard some screaming. It looked serious because people were running back and forth," Bridey Finegan of Schoharie told WNYT NewsChannel 13 . Authorities didn't release names of victims or other specifics, but state police set up a hotline for family members. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating. An afternoon news conference is planned. article... |

http://static-35.sinclairstoryline.c...?1538944040919 doesn't look big enough for 18 people and looks like it was b-day party, not a wedding. https://www.yahoo.com/gma/20-people-...opstories.html |
Can't believe all died in the vehicle. Must have been a violet collision.

How fucking fast do you need to be going while driving a limo? Apparently fast enough to kill 18 people inside the vehicle. I'm trying to fathom the traffic wreckage level needed to kill 18 people in one vehicle -- and there's nothing I can think of outside of driving off a 500 ft cliff.
I'm interested to know the details of the crash. Did it plow into something head-on or just flip a bunch of times? |

So sad any way you look at it though. |
Bleeding while drunk is a fast way to go. Limo driver was designated driver.

Limo involved in crash that killed 20 never should have been on the road, New York governor says
"The owner of the company had no business putting a failed vehicle on the road," Gov. Andrew Cuomo said on Monday about the car that had recently failed an inspection." "Cuomo said the limousine was a "chopped vehicle," meaning it had been cut and elongated and needed federal certification that it had been extended in a way that is compliant with the law, which it did not have." "Cuomo also said the driver of the vehicle, who has not been identified, did not have the specific license — a commercial driver's license with a passenger endorsement — required to drive the limousine." |

I'm more concerned about the driver not having the right license. If he's never driven a vehicle that big with that much weight behind him it could be the reason why he lost control of the vehicle. |

"Abeling told The Washington Post that Erin sent a text message complaining about the condition of the limo, a last-minute replacement after a bus hired to shuttle the group broke down." "Four of those killed were sisters, three of whom died with their husbands. " Sad Imagine a family losing 4 sisters at the same time, and their husbands. Damn |
damn this news just ruined my day

looks like this is the limo in question from their website and it holds up to 26

Speculation is that it was the exhaust that killed them

I've read they had three vehicles and two drivers or two vehicles and three drivers. Vehicles failed inspection yet they're still on the road. Why they failed I don't know yet . I haven't read stories tonight but am about to hit news sites.
One family wants to file lawsuits but claims the company is nearly broke because all income is funneled to Pakistan. They own vehicles that were chopped and spliced and welded. Yet in previous version they passed inspection. I had no emergency brake in my first car but knew a guy .... Got my sticker easily. Whomever passed this glued vehicle better hide fast if he passed it in previous years. In Massachusetts they used to do it manually. Now it's mostly computerized by hooking up to your tailpipes and analyzing exhaust. It was $2 every two years. Now it's $49 I believe every year. When it jumped to $4 everyone bitched. When I lived in New Hampshire it wasn't mandatory. I had it done and I'll never forget it. The guy lifted the front of the car to check shocks and springs. Lifted by hand! Only a few inches and only a Toyota Corolla, but my guy friend stood in shock. I asked the guy questions and he said after 1961 cars are easy but older have real metal, not cheap light stuff. All I know is the insurance company must be crapping their pants. IF they had insurance but if not, who do you sue? Money won't make up for the loss of life and what lessons will you teach the guys who flee to Pakistan? Even if caught, death penalty aside, there's no satisfaction here. If they get $100 million in cash, will it make up for the loss? |
That is horrible

The son of the owner has been arrested for manslaughter.
Also, the driver of the limo that crashed was given a ticket weeks ago driving the same limo by a cop the ticketed him for not having the correct license to drive that vehicle and a notice of non operation was posted to the son of the owner of the company for the limo. Son of owner in limo crash arrested on homicide charges "The driver, Scott T. Lisinicchia, received a notice of violation for driving without a proper license to operate the same limo just weeks before the crash. The notice was issued by a state trooper who pulled him over in Saratoga Springs after he had dropped off 11 passengers. The trooper's notice directed that the 2001 Ford Excursion be taken out of service immediately, and it was served on Nauman Hussain as the operator of the company. At that time, according to the notice, Hussain would have been made aware that Lisinicchia lacked the credentials needed to operate the large limousine." " A son of the owner of the limousine that crashed in Schoharie, killing 20 people on Saturday, was arrested on homicide charges Wednesday. Each count carries a maximum sentence of 1 1/3 to four years in state prison. A judge could impose consecutive sentence on each charge." |
