It's the Baby Boomers' Fault?

And I always thought that self-responsibility and self-ownership were the keys to personal happiness, fulfillment, and MEANING.

I didn't know there was a shortcut.:helpme:1orglaugh

How the baby boomers screwed America

If America’s messed up, blame it on the boomers

Baby Boomers Are the Worst Generation

A book every boomer should fear (they do, just look at all the BS reviews from Boomers who didn't read the book). For Generation X this book will confirm in factual detail everything you've suspected since you were 7. For Millennial's just waking up to reality, this book will be a primer for the rest of your political lives.

Millennials are not fond of Baby Boomers at all. They make some good points.

NemesisEnforcer 08-03-2018 01:14 PM

Silent Generation are the best. :thumbsup

I'm Gen X and every generation has their faults, of course, but this line sums it up pretty well from what I've experienced dealing with people in the Boomer age bracket...

"I believe it's time someone stated the simple truth: The Baby Boomers are the most self-centered, self-seeking, self-interested, self-absorbed, self-indulgent, self-aggrandizing generation in American history."

Millennials also get a bad rep about some of the things above but I find they have a more worldly view on life and are more open to inclusion, harmony and I find them to be much less greedy than Boomers, whereas so many Boomers I've encountered think the world revolves around them and they are stubborn/preachy about their beliefs and opinions.

Like you, I am Gen X. Something I have never understood is why our generation likes to bash Millennials because we are the ones that raised them. If they are shitty people it is because we did a shitty job.

Millennials are the first generation to truly grow up with a world view because they have been connected to the internet their entire lives. It is no wonder they see things differently. I saw a cartoon once that very accurately summed up how a lot of younger people feel. It was two frames. In the first was a young man talking to his dad. He asks his dad how he can be successful. His dad tells him to get an entry level job at a company and work his way up the ladder. The second frame shows the kid, now in a suit, standing in front of a guy at a desk. The guy behind the desk is his dad. The dad is looking at the kid's resume and is saying, "Sorry, all our entry level jobs require a bachelor's degree and two years of experience in the field."

(((You))) were waiting for them, with poisons a-plenty. Not content with sacrificing millions of our best men in wars, you went for their kids.

When you're expelled, we'll teach "generation theory" to our young, so that they understand the cyclical nature of these things.

Baby Boomers have been the worst most selfish generation this country has ever seen.. It's always me,me,me with them..

Goethe 08-03-2018 03:20 PM

It’ll be interesting to see how it pans out now that they’re all dying off.

That's why they were called the "Me Generation" in the Seventies. In the Eighties the yuppies (Boomers) anthem was "Greed Is Good" by Gordon Gecko from Wall Street. So it's no wonder they turned out so selfish and still consider themselves, at 55+, "kids". Look how they dress! Look how they try to be cool and hip! Look how they want to be friends to their children instead of parents!

There's no Generation Gap anymore either. Why is that? Because the Boomers consider themselves forever young. 60 is the new 30! They be the 1st generation to use any medical procedure imaginable to try and live forever. Freeze their heads, put them in hyperbolic chambers, send them out into space! LOL

Their music, films and TV shows were 1000 times better than the shit we have today tho, I will give them that!!

Nothing wrong with that, you gotta lookout for number one. Didn't the Boomers start the Yuppie craze?

Assuming the Baby Boomers did mess up (and that's a big assumption)...
Does that really absolve later generations of their responsibility?

Just asking... :)

Rochard 08-05-2018 01:35 PM

Every generation blames the generation before them. And every generation thinks they can do better than the generation before them.

Yes but we seem to be in a downward spiral here:

Founding Fathers
Pioneers
Gold Rush
Civil War/ending slavery
Industrial Age
Electricity, phones, cars, planes, light bulbs, radio and so on
Robber Barons (Rockefeller, Getty, etc)
Teddy Roosevelt breaking up monopolies and creating the Middle Class
World War One
The 1920's Flappers/Jazz Age/silent films
The Great Depression/World War Two/Defeat Hitler/Atomic Bomb (the "greatest" generation)

And then....

Baby Boomers
Generation X
Millenials
Borg Babies (half human/half smart phone)

Yeah, we're doing GREAT!!!

crockett 08-05-2018 04:24 PM

This is the perfect example of two Baby Boomers.. ME, Me, Me.. fuck the rest of you..

I think life just got easier for a lot of people in the western world after WW2 so they don't have the same perspective on life as those that dealt with really harsh times. When life gets easier, people stop worrying about the necessitates and start either getting greedy, lazy, and/or create unnecessary drama.

I have a fondness for people from "The Greatest Generation" because they survived hard times that those in the west that came after can't even imagine experiencing as a whole, and also because I've only ever seen them as "old" during my lifetime... so we look at them through different eyes. But if you analyze, many from that era were racist, non-accepting individuals who set the stage for the Boomers me-first generation and perpetuated the societal hierarchy and rules.

And the stuff that I've read about the Robber Barons era is very equivalent in my mind to the millennial's social media era. A lot of complete nonsense and waste in the name of social status and "likes".
