HTTPS on forums
Hi!
I've moved a mainstream forum to HTTPS but obviously the old avatars/signatures got images which are hotlinked from non SSL sources. Should I just disable all avatars/signatures or that shouldn't be a big no-no as far as all the local server content loads via HTTPS? There is an alternative solution of so called image proxy for the forum script (SMF), but I don't want to bother with that one at all. |
it's not a big deal.
there's really nothing you can do. disabling features might make users angry and leave. you'll just have to wait until all sites change to ssl that happend to me also |
The forum isn't really active anymore, but it still gets some SEO traffic, hence upgrading it to SSL. So disabling features won't piss of many people.. and I'm afraid that by time not all avatars/signatures will be fixed, I'm pretty sure some are hotlinked from domains which will get dropped instead of being upgraded to SSL :)

Better host the avatars on your server, just like GFY does.
|
SSL won't help you much in ranking higher on Google or SEO if your forum isn't really active
|
I'd host on the server but to answer your question no, it will not affect anything.
|
manual save images on your server.
inform users and only allow upload images to your server. worst think is a mixed content ssl and nossl :) > you'll just have to wait until all sites change to ssl stupid idea, you can wait 2 years or 5 for it:) |
Ok I have enabled image proxy afterall, thanks for all the inputs :)
