Should people who defend themselves go to jail?
 

In a 3 to 1 fight, victim gets shanked by the criminal justice system?

If we could at least paralyze every random attacker I think the world would be a bit better.

I'm not a lawyer but this quote, "After being assaulted inside the coffee shop, Sumpter ran outside and stabbed one of the men," seems to make make it no longer self defense.

Edit: didn't see the part where he pursued them. He's in the wrong. Even "stand your ground" does not apply in that situation and his public defender is an idiot.

You can't do that. He ceased being the victim and became the attacker and used a weapon

Connecticut has a law called "duty to retreat". You have a right to defend yourself, but if you chase down the attackers and stab them or shoot them then you went from defending yourself to becoming the attacker.

As you know; no he wouldn't go to jail for self defense. He shanked himself.
