I don't understand this at all. Trump - and his supporters - are blaming this on the Democrats saying it's "their law" that is causing this. Oddly enough, it's never been a problem until last month. This isn't happening because of a law, but instead because of a policy change last month by the Trump administration. We are locking up children and treating them like hardened criminals. It's disgusting.

Aus and NZ are islands in the pacific with no bordering countries, the strict immigration is on those that come by boat, and that's not so much about the ones that arrive but those that don't, for every 1000 that make it ashore.. 5,000 drown, and that 1000 that do make it, find they are in crocodile country with 4000 miles of desert in front of them. So its more about curbing the Indonesian people smugglers that sell the dream.
What they do here that seems to be lacking in the USA is really clamping down and fining companies that employ non citizens, if you caught here employing them... say bye bye company basically.

I think the current American immigration laws are nuts, same with voting laws. What the solution is I have no idea, certainly need to start clamping down on companies employing them and making the path to citizenship more easy/ avaliable.Comment

Well its up to them really they have 3 offers to take:
1) Free house, job (50k min per year) , education and healthcare for ten years if they want to stay on Manus Island/ PNG and then returned home.
2) Or they can go to Cambodia, once again free house, guaranteed income for 3 years, but they get Cambodian citizenship forever.
3) Or we will fly them home and give them $20,000 cash as a farewell gift.
Those that remain have declined those. Keep in mind most have flown in an out of several countries before they attempt the water trip, there not refugees from Indonesia ;) and if they have any claim as a refugee or can show in the slightest they are.. more than likely they are processed and living in Aus already.Comment

Nobody can win this argument..On one hand,
The camps for the Rohinga,Syrians, South Sudan etc... where ALL are put into one, everybody complains that women are raped and children are exploited in various ways...everybody wants to separate them.
Now in the USA where they are separated everybody wants to keep them togheter.
Go figure.
So a simple solution:
1) keep all the males over 11 years of age in one place
2) all females with children ( of their own) in another place.
A good compromise and not that difficult.
