Anyone here use Ubuntu OS?
I switched to Ubuntu 16 about a month ago.
Not sure I'll ever go back to Windows TBH. I was an avid Windows user for 15+ years but...there's just something about Ubuntu that I'm loving. Any cool things/tips an Ubuntu newbie should do? |
I've used a Linux desktop for the last 14 years. Of that, Ubuntu since 2012 (and most recently Xubuntu).
What would I suggest you do? - Add the "restricted extras" program so you have all available media codecs. - Install gnome-tweak-tool so you can have more control your desktop. - Install synaptic for managing updates and installs. I read the website https://www.omgubuntu.co.uk which has really good news and information about Ubuntu. Hope this helps! |

Been on ubuntu since 06 with Dapper Drake :pimp
Stay with the LTS versions if you can. I'm still on 16 LTS, as I normally wait a couple of months after an new LTS comes out to let the initial bugs/kinks get worked out before I switch over my machines. Lot's of great free software packages that can do just about anything a windows box can. I couldn't live without these :) gimp avidemux handbrake krename filezilla libreoffice openshot video editor :2 cents: |
Also try BlueGriffon, a WYSISYG HTML editor. IMHO, VLC is the best media player. It can play virtually anything. VLC is in the repositories while BlueGriffon is not. There is a .DEB file for it on the BlueGriffon website. Both programs are available for Mac, Win and Linux.

Determine the things you want Ubuntu to do, that you can't figure out how to make it happen. Maybe there was something you could do in Windows, that you can't figure out how to do it in Linux. Then take it from there.
I've been there. I've done that. Whatever you want to know how to do, just ask in this thread. Linux also has its quirks. I've ran into just about every kind of problem that can happen in Linux. Some issues can be very difficult to figure out how to solve. I've solved every problem I've ever encountered. So again, just ask. Congrats on switching to Ubuntu and flushing Microsoft. |
Went from MacOS to Linux in 1998. Have never ran Windows before.
I'm on Mint nowadays... I honestly have no idea how normal computers work, I'm so tunnel visioned into my own ecosystem. Still use the command line for almost everything. |

Typical a mousewheel you slide it up and down but on Windows I used to be able to click the mousewheel in and hold it to navigate up and down a page more quickly. |
