Nigerian family kicked off United flight by whites for ‘pungent odor’ files racism suit

Oboima says she summoned the flight attendant, who would not make the man move, instead telling her to take a different seat. The man then got up and went to the cockpit, the lawsuit alleges.

Oboima went to the restroom before the plane took off. When she got back, he was blocking her seat. A flight attendant then went up and told her to get off the plane because she needed to speak to someone.

When she spoke to another employee off the plane, she was told that the pilot “had personally requested that she be ejected from the aircraft since the man who was sitting in her seat was not comfortable traveling next to her because she was ‘pungent.’”

The woman asked to speak to her children, who were still on the plane, but this request was denied.

Instead, according to the lawsuit, she stood in the terminal crying as her luggage and her children were removed from the plane that they were supposed to take to their new school.

The incident is potentially the next and a long series of public relations disasters for United, which has been under fire for “reaccomodating” a doctor by dragging him violently off of a plane and killing a puppy by shoving it in an overhead bin.

The family was flying from Nigeria to Canada in 2016 when they had to switch planes in Houston.

Mmm How do you get to Nigeria from Huston? That's a 16-20 hour flight, they probably had least 5 hours preparation to get on that flight, get the kids ready say good byes and head to air port, check in, pass security and all that. What's the temperature in Nigeria? and what yummy food do they serve on those flights.

Then she had to put the family on another flight to Canada, that instantly means another 2-6 hours layover at Huston, before getting on that flight 3-5 hours.

Really it's the fault of the airport/ airlines where they don't offer decent refresher areas for those on long haul flights unless your a business class traveller.

Breaking the trip up and spending a few nights in Huston.. would be a fucking nightmare on an Nigerian passport, so I can understand why that was not an option.

I'm well travelled and after our 21 hour nonstop flight from LA to Australia nobody stunk. They even give you wipes to clean up multiple times during the trip.

The queen had to have been really REALLY ripe to be kicked off the plane I can only imagine :disgust

Also, it's custom in a lot of countries not yo wear deodorant, like in Australia. Wearing no deodorant is not a big deal. Woman had to have had a really bad stank to her and it probably was not BO.

Exactly. I've taken a 22 hour flight from Japan and I didn't stink. A simple shower, some deodorant and clean clothes you will not stink like shit. :2 cents:

She was probably wearing the same dress for a week and with so many kids likely was the victim of a fistula with one of the deliveries. Fistulas smell putrid & awful if untreated. Fistulas are common in Nigeria

My ass gets in an economy seat just fine, you guys are nuts long haul flights are a fess pit of smell and odor, the most stinky one I have been on was from Bali to Australia, and the flight was ok, it was the Bali airport where we were housed like cattle for 6 hours, no aircon, there's no where to go either, you just wait, while the white people melt. That aftershave you doused yourself coming thru customs doesn't help either just adds to it.

I'm a germaphobe in many ways, and I just cant wait to get off those flights and in a shower, I smell every fucking molecule, deposited on me from flying.

Side note I went to NZ at Christmas 3-4 hour flight. I'd booked and paid for a exit row seat.. airline double booked it and told me bad luck as I was about to sit. They put me in this row of 3 with a nice English couple beside me and their parents in the row ahead.
15 minutes in to the flight out comes the thermos flask which they ask to be filled with boiling water.. mom had brought tea, and then she produces a yummy snack she'd made for everyone.. EGG FUCKING SANDWICHES I kid you not, the whole fucking cabin smells like boiled egg sandwich and no where more.. than my seat.

Get to Auckland, where I had a connecting flight and its delayed because of weather, in fact they kept delaying that flight for 7 hours until they said.. we're going to put you all up in hotels for the night,.. another 3 hours fucking around to organise that.

From when I'd left my house in Sydney to arriving at that hotel in Auckland took, 21 hours, I got to the hotel at 2am to learn.. my flight out was at 6am, make sure your back at the airport a hour before and.. Welcome to New Zealand..

And back to the woman and her family from Nigeria, we have no idea what she had to endure to get to Huston nor how long they had to wait at Huston.. smelly people on long haul flights.. expected

You mentioned Bali. I'm curious if your experience with smelly flights is due to more of a warmer environment with less access to AC.

I've been on several 6+ hour flights to Central America without any smell issues. AC was fine on both sides of the flight.

I've also done several overnights at airports, which are absolutely miserable, but nobody has access to showers or proper cleaning and have never experienced severe smell issues there either.

Hairy does not equal stinky. You can have a shaved bush and still stink. I published so many articles on this. Showering and bathing keep you clean. If hair traps bad odor, tell her to shower more often.

I LOVE hairy hen, but some stink. You’ve got to shampoo the hair down there. Otherwise, urine and semen gets get stuck and that smell is nasty. Tastes nasty, too, after an entire day of sitting in hot underwear.

Flight's and warmer environments is irrelevant, you put 200-500 people in any enclosed space and flip off the aircon and within a hour, you learn.. "A healthy person passes gas an average of 13 to 21 times per day".

I'll never forget my first flight with my son after he was born, it was my first flight too. I'm a single Dad raised him alone. Packed everything for the trip and prepped for the 3 hour flight, baby seat , checked in, sat down, got situated all awesome.

The flight takes off and as soon as we hit air he takes a massive dump of the stinkiest shit ever, a HUGE shit, masdive. People start looking around and making noises behind me. So funny now. I was mortified. I packed everything but a carry-on extra diaper 😂👍

Ask the stewardess if they had a diaper and she said no so everyone got to smell my kids shit for 3 hours on the flight, including his second dump that started leaking out his diaper right before we landed 😏 hehehe

My kid age age 8, spewed on a bus, like right down the isle and over 4 seats.. we were sitting right next to the loo, and no one had used it.. Thank fuck it was only a short trip to a connecting bus, but there he had a complete melt down.. no way he was getting on another bus, so suckers me takes a cab to the nearest airport and charters a flight out. Incidentally that was in New Zealand again hehe.

I dated a nigerian girl for about 6 years. She was born here but did her junior and senior year in nigeria. She said the worst thing about it was how the bad everyone smelled and how they don’t understand the invisible barrier of personal space. Add to the equation the lack of oral hygene and contempt for deodorant, I am certain they stunk. Should they have been removed? No. Relegated to the stink section, yes. Some people really do stink, and there is nothing worse than sitting next to someone who does. Same goes with crying babies with shitty diapers.

Houston also boasts one of the largest populations of nigerians. It’s a similar climate from what I’m told.

This is why I always buy the whole row when I fly. It's a bit more roomy and less stinky
