WARNING: Paypal fees jumped alot!

We maintain a personal account drawing funds from a US bank to cover USD based micro payments. Yesterday we noticed that 5 of our transactions, using money existing in the e-wallet, had outrageous fees when compared to the original transaction amount.

$13.47 transaction, $4.99 fee
$4.24 transaction, $4.24 fee
$7.22 transaction, $4.99 fee
$9.04 transaction, $4.99 fee

We filed a complaint, and in their response we were directed to:

https://www.paypal.com/us/webapps/mpp/paypal-fees
https://www.paypal.com/us/webapps/mp...-policies-full

Heads up to everyone!

Yes i see it as well on CZ part of fees,. And it seems if you send funds by cc it's 3.4%, so that plus receiver fee which is also 3.4%, that is overall 6.8% fee.

Bladewire 05-02-2018 04:04 PM

Yeah PayPal charges a $4.99 fee transferring to any country outside Canada & Europe because of the high instances of fraud and massive amounts of scammers.

Wasn't like this since ever? I am trying to avoid PayPal as much as I can but most of the people are simply using it. I've also never managed to figure out when I am paying fees and when a client is doing it.

I am quite sure how there was no fees for sending ever, only for receiving.

jscott 05-02-2018 04:24 PM

blackmonsters 05-02-2018 04:33 PM

.40 cents fee on a Ebay purchase?

Keep in mind that Ebay was Paypal's parent from almost the beginning of their existence and have been joined at the hip till recently. I would be shocked if Paypal applied its new pricing to Ebay.

What's more interesting is that Ebay is now replacing Paypal with another payment processor Adyen.

It's actually worse then that. You forget about withdrawing. You cannot withdraw in USD, they force you to convert to CZK (or in my case PLN) before you can withdraw to your local bank. Their currency spread is 4,5%. So it's actually 11,3%. This is why we stopped using them - our new biller is 1,9% and pays us out in euros.

I disagree. Who actually keeps a paypal balance nowadays? Everyone just has credit card hooked up to it. They're basically just paying with credit card anyways.

most people simply do not care about the transaction costs...they want security and the option to charge back and also the option not to give their CC to come banger...

by not using paypal, you are leaving money on the table...

Black All Through 05-21-2018 01:08 PM

In most cases, it’s a PayPal issued line of credit. I actually purchased something today and expected eBay to pull from my account and they used the PayPal credit line they’ve issued me without giving me the choice of payment options. The interest rate on that is HUGE, so they’re trying to bank there too...whenever possible.

Double check your settings, to see if the Paypal Credit is set as the default payment. If not, consider taking a screenshot, and filing a complaint. :2 cents:

Paypal credit can only be obtained by Americans on American Paypal accounts. So that’s not an issue for people from other countries.

I am sure I have been offered it in the UK...

Klen 05-21-2018 03:12 PM

i actualy didnt noticed any difference, it still cost me zero when i send money over paypal. It seems fee is applied only to one party, receiver or sender, i suppose it depend on type of transaction.
