Driving yourself out of business.

That's what all these Uber and Lyft drivers are doing.
Every dollar they make helps build the self driving car.
So it's kind of like writing code. :Oh crap

If people were smart both parties would "cancel the trip" and negotiate a cash deal.

Without Government intervention, the self-driving car is here to stay.

Will self-driving vehicles result in job losses? - HR News

Quote:

Autonomous technology aims to take away the human need in driving. Those who drive for a living worry that it could be the end of the road for their career. In the US alone, it is predicted that there could be up to 25,000 jobs lost a month, according to Goldman Sachs. With truck driving one of the most common occupations in the US, that figure could turn into over 300,000 job losses per year. In the UK, low-end estimates suggest that over 1.7 million truckers could also be replaced by self-driving counterparts – which could rise to as high at 3 million, suggesting many could rid their manual drivers of their job.

When autonomous vehicle saturation peaks, U.S. drivers could see job losses at a rate of 25,000 a month, or 300,000 a year, according to a report from Goldman Sachs Economics Research.

Truck drivers, more so than bus or taxi drivers, will see the bulk of that job loss, according to the report. That makes sense, given today's employment: In 2014, there were 4 million driver jobs in the U.S., 3.1 million of which were truck drivers, Goldman said. That represents 2 percent of total employment.
Millions of trucks, taxis, bus drivers jobs are going.

Will companies pay the extra tax needed or not?

A lot of Uber drivers give out business cards and cut out the middleman.
