Trump to finally deal with Chinese Steel dumping.

Quote:

World stock markets have tumbled after Donald Trump said the United States would impose tariffs of 25% on steel imports and 10% on imported aluminum next week.

The threat of a trade war with China and higher goods prices led to a sharp sell-off in Wall Street on Thursday, causing Asian markets to take fright on Friday.

The Nikkei index in Japan fell 2.4%, Hong Kong and South Korea were down 1.6%, and the ASX200 in Sydney was off 1% in early afternoon trading. Asian steelmakers bore the brunt. South Korea?s Posco fell 3% and Japan?s Nippon Steel 4%.
The stock markets are in a frenzy over this. Ordinary working class people in the Mid-West will praise him.

Any trade war with China will end very badly for the Chinese.

pimpmaster9000 03-02-2018 02:42 AM

what a genius move on trumps part :1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh

its not like china can do the same to the USA...oh wait it can...hmmmmm I wonder if trump has a plan for this?...I bet he has the magic wand of cherry picking consequences ready!!!...

*trump waves magic wand*

Why do you think that ?

directfiesta 03-02-2018 03:50 AM

Canada is already looking for alternate outlets for our ressources ( including oil ), as Canada can no longer trust their dealings with the USA, what used to be their most important trade partners .

beerptrol 03-02-2018 03:53 AM

I see he didn't touch his cheap shit made over there.
Chump shoots off at the mouth not understanding the consequences and then his staff reels him in.. He still thinks this is reality tv

He must not be building any new buildings

Trump's last three construction projects, Trump opted to purchase his steel and aluminum from Chinese

Sarn 03-02-2018 03:53 AM

China it one country winner from globalisation.

BaldBastard 03-02-2018 04:45 AM

Canada supplies 16 percent of US demand for steel while China supplies 2 per cent, followed by Brazil and South Korea, Australia provides 0.8 per cent of the US steel market and 1.5 per cent of aluminium supply.

This is what happens when all of his guardrails start leaving the White House for "other opportunities". He just reverts to being a nationalist making reckless moves.

The president should be a stabilizing force, not a loose cannon farting out ideas without the thought of what consequences it could bring. A lot of people lost money in the stock market yesterday because of this unnecessary bullshit meant to make him look strong to a bunch of mouth breathers who voted for him.

Busty2 03-02-2018 06:44 AM

China isn't even in the top ten of countries we import steel from

Canada 17%
Brazil 13%
South Korea 12%
Mexico 9%
Turkey 7%
Japan 6%
Russia 6%
Germany 4%
Taiwan 3%
Vietnam3%

All i see this doing is adding increased cost to the people of the USA and if these countries retaliate job losses in the USA
Thanks Chump you moron !!

I think alot of other countries are starting to think the same way.

My other half is a bigwig in the Aluminum industry and what Chump has done is a serious blow, and considered absolutely stupid by everyone. They are taking it very seriously and figuring out their next move.

Busty2 03-02-2018 08:38 AM

To be honest if we lose shit like this i would not be sorry !!!

No, it won't end badly for the Chinese.

The Chinese will still sell us steel, and we will pay more for it. Prices goes up for the US citizens, nothing changes in China. The last time we imposed a tariff on steel from China the US steel industry lost jobs.

onwebcam 03-02-2018 12:13 PM

Steel prices in the US have been deflated for many years due to these trade deals.. Anyone remember they were shipping all of the Twin Towers scrap steel out of the US? It's because it was law..

They will have to look for alternative markets. Most of your list includes economies that rely on selling cheap goods to the US. What are they going to do, stop selling to Americans? Vietnam Vets must be feeling great they now buy so much from Vietnam.

Quote:

Economic costs. The Defense Department reported that the overall cost of the Vietnam war was $173 billion (equivalent to $770 billion in 2003 dollars). Veteran's benefits and interest would add another $250 billion ($1 Trillion in 2003 dollars).
Quote:

The Vietnam Conflict Extract Data File of the Defense Casualty Analysis System (DCAS) Extract Files contains records of 58,220 U.S. military fatal casualties of the Vietnam War. These records were transferred into the custody of the National Archives and Records Administration in 2008.

Tasty1 03-02-2018 09:43 PM

that must be good for the environment when cars get more expensive. No need for a Paris Climate agreement, Trump can handle it himself.

No, they won't have to look for alternative markets. We will still have to buy steel from them, only we will pay more for it. Those costs will be passed down to us, the end consumer.

Yes, he just should it call a 'sustainability tax' than no one can complain about it.

spads 03-02-2018 11:25 PM

The winners of this are governments. They get a new revenue stream while the citizens of all these countries end up paying more for shit. Thanks government!

Spunky 03-03-2018 12:10 AM

No more Mr. Nice Guy from the Canadian people. It's ok to fuck us with massive tariffs on our lumber but you wont take our steel

pimpmaster9000 03-03-2018 03:09 AM

this will do wonders for american exports LOL now that other countries start imposing tariffs on already over priced american goods...people are going to be standing in line to buy american stuff...

cutting off cheap raw materials to american producers was a genius move from trumpy bear :1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh

prepare for MAGA! :2 cents::2 cents:

Sarn 03-03-2018 03:21 AM

I am of course don't know how will be work such protectionism. End consumers on domestic market receive more biggest prices, and not win without competition. Export will be overpriced and not competitive.

So you're for imports making products cheaper and putting Americans out of work. And there was me thinking you cared about your fellow countrymen.

directfiesta 03-03-2018 04:33 AM

''Notably, while Canada?s top source countries have shifted from year to year, the United States has ranked as Canada?s top import source for steel products for more than 20 years. ''
59% of our steel import ... from the USA ...

Mainland Communist China already does the same. In a very big way. They do not have an open and free import market.
