I use traffic assistant (it's a php script) and it kicks booty.

Keeps all those annoying eastern eurpopeans, russians, and yukky middles easterners from clogging up my chats.

Does anybody have any experience using MaxMind? Is it accurate?

www.ip-sorter.com :-)

Uses the maxmind db data, and includes their premium database in the price.

Pattyecake,

Drop me an email ( [email protected] ) or an ICQ (107713480) hon have a couple of solutions for you depending on what use you want to have from the geo:ip targeting.

May I ask then what is the difference between ip-sorter and maxmind?

Thanks,

Maxmind is the module i beleive to run GEO:IP on a server that needs to be installed thus, almost all GEO:IP solutions will use
MaxMind software of one of the lesser quality equivalents.

Maxmind supply the databae of IP-country translations, and some code required to access the database (so you have to write your own software).

IP-Sorter takes the maxmind data, and puts it into a set of scripts that are more usable by the average webmaster.

IP-Sorter costs $300, $150 of which is the price for the premium edition (updates each month) data from maxmind. The other $150 is the price for our software. (so if you've got the data already from maxmind, you could buy our software for $150).

Even for the perl/php programmers, we supply a shell tool (http://ip-sorter.com/tour/extend.htm) that they can use to extend their own scripts.

The other big benefit of IP-Sorter, is that all our software is coded in C, so its pretty shit hot when it comes to performance figures (tested with 5,000,000/day simulation, took a 0.00 `top` load average to 0.50, and was using 50% of the resources).

I think its worth the extra $150 to get a high performance, stable, webmaster interface to the db :)

Thanks Guys!
You're the best :)

The Maxmind database is "mostly" accurate, however for the price nothing beats it.

I can highly recommend Richard's IP-Sorter. Uses very little server resources, and it was easy to intergrate into our existing software. We're happy customers!

Humm...

Speaking of this...

I am currently building my own HTTP Module that handles redirection based on IP.

Currently it tracks over 170 Countries.

If you are from outside the US, please take a moment to test it out.

http://ealabs.com/studio/services/web/eacip/

Basically all it will tell you is the Country you are from.

Thanks...
