Hey GSpot

I understand from your posts that you?re living in Spain. How will Brexit affect your right to live in Spain? Any specific changes that you know about?

NatalieK 01-07-2018 09:52 AM

hey ya, nothing really will change for us at all. Spain has been honest, appreciating the Brits in Spain, so they´ve already said how grateful they are and they will do everything to give Brits living in Spain as little to change as possible.

Although, for us, we´re becoming residents of Spain over the coming months, we´ll have everything here in Spain, even a Spanish driving licence...

We love the country and everything about Spain & the Spanish :thumbsup

Thanks, that's good to know. I've always had Spain on my mind as a retirement destination but with the uncertainty...

Do you mind my asking was it hard to get a residence permit? I assume it's based on running a company. Do they have income requirements ?

HomerSimpson 01-08-2018 11:07 AM

In what city/area do you live?
How much is the cost to rent an decent (100m2) apartment/house?
How much is the price of real estate in Spain?

thanks!

you need no special requirements as long as you run a business or bring in an income, accountable, then residency and becoming a Spanish citizen is not a problem.

With regards to business, here in Spain compared to the UK, there´s business rates you need to pay, then taxes on top. Where in the UK, you can run a partnership business for free, no tax, until you reach tax levels. Also, the Spanish expect a tax account quarterly and not yearly, so accountants, which are needed, unlike in the UK, you can do your own.
Therefore, it can work out a little more expensive, if your business wasn´t making much income, it would be difficult to set up or harder than in the UK. We´re ok, our live cam and websites, dvd income and content income is a decent income to give us a great living here. We are lucky, I suppose, working for each other is a huge benefit :thumbsup

we live on the costa blanca, the east coast, near La Manga, Murcia, it simply is the most perfect area in Spain. Many places vary in price, although, on average, a decent size apartment costs on average 400€ a month, purchase of about 80k€. 2 or 3 beds. A home, a 3 bed home is about 600€ to rent and purchase 250k€. then obviously you can upgrade to a lovely huge 5 bed home on the shore, looking over the med, swimming pool, gym, 3 car garage, on suite and huge kitchen with several other rooms for just under 800k€. This kind of home would be inline with something of about 2million in Britain.

I hear Spain is not doing ok, but I can say from what I see with my own eyes, just in our area alone, we´re on a top of a hill looking over the sea and 20mile radius, there´s building going on all the times, 20 to 30 cranes in areas miles away and over the views...

I´d say Spain´s honestly thriving, or at least in the area we live, Alicante & south.

Good luck with any ideas of purchasing a home for your retirement or for holidays and rental :thumbsup
