117 people died each day on the freeways last year!

Thats 43,000 funerals! Bummer huh!

Why are our streets and highways so dangerous?

Please buckle up and slow it down. Live.

Sly_RJ 04-28-2003 10:16 AM

I think we should file a class action against Ford, GM, and Chrysler for causing so many deaths. It's truly a shame.

Fletch XXX 04-28-2003 10:17 AM

i see accidents on the freeway everyday here.

consistent.

JosephS 04-28-2003 10:22 AM

Well I think part of it is that our cities are so poorly planned that we have to spend so much of our time on the freeways just getting to work.

SUVs are more dangerous to smaller cars also. They ride higher and tend to impact cars where they are least protected.

People just need to slow the fuck down, share rides and work from home.

We fight a war and lose 130 people but we lose close to that each day on the roads. Each day!

Its sad. I think its very sad. Why don't more people care? Get angry? Why arn't there protests in the streets like the anti war protests? We lost a bit more than 50,000 people in the Viet Nam war over 10 long years of war. We lose close to that each fucking year on our roads! So where is the outrage???

Two words American Drives

adjektiv 04-28-2003 10:46 AM

This is insanity. Cars should be outlawed immediately!

Lane 04-28-2003 10:57 AM

cant drink if you're under 21, but can drive if you're 16..

selling a gun and giving a drivers license should be in the same category IMO

PaulSweet 04-28-2003 11:11 AM

Here is another twist to that statistic....

A lot of young men commit suicide while driving a car - its not always easy for police to figure out after a tragic car crash if it was an accident or not....

Trolleater 04-28-2003 11:17 AM

300,000,000 people in the US....if everyone's driving on the freeways everyday...you have a 0.000039% of getting killed in an accident.

I like those %'s....

Obviously that number would be a bit higher, but still it's slim to none. Big deal.

good point trolleater

the percentage is actualy alot higher because not all of the 300 million drive.. but yes its still a good ratio

MrBrian 04-28-2003 01:02 PM

actually its a lot lower...lots lower but they do count with "raw passengers"...so if i flew 20 times, id be counted twenty times in the math. ive never seen an "unique passenger" ratio :)

nemesis 04-28-2003 01:23 PM

it is because of the speed limits. Speed limits are so low that it makes you fucking sleep when driving. If there were not any speed limits, people would be paying more attention to the road... Have you ever made over 150 mph? You don't even wanna smoke a cigarette, because you want to be carefull and pay more attention to the road.

When I am driving I feel like watching tv, reading paper or listening loud music, because I get fucking bored. People are trying to have sex in the car when driving on the road, because they get bored.

They should make the speed limits at least 90 mph and let people go up to 100mph. I bet the accident rates will be lower.
