Weed & Atkins Diet

I'm on the Atkins Diet, and its working well for me.

I've not smoked for a while, but wanna know if its gunna fuck up the Atkins Diet if i do?

[yea, i'm no bio-medcine person :)]

Theres talk about not having any caffeine/stimulants, so i was thinking it might mess it up.

Anyone got an opinion on this?

Fletch XXX 04-28-2003 09:32 AM

no.

thc will not make your body produce glucose the way caffeince does.

enjoy.

Excretor 04-28-2003 09:38 AM

Produce glucose? I thought it just tricked your body and slowed ketosis - according to Atkins.

I've done Atkins twice. Both times I lost the same amount (appx 30lbs in 7 weeks). One time I drank coffee like crazy, the other time I was caffeine free.

Caffeine made no difference for me. Same with aspartame. It's all about the carbs.

richard 04-28-2003 11:34 AM

the book says it can mess up your blood-sugar levels, and can leave to cravings.

I dunno about the biomedical stuff that weed does to you, but i guess it could promote cravings.

Just have to get so fucked i passout and miss the munchies ;)

detoxed 04-28-2003 11:38 AM

shit, i dont have much food in my house.. im too lazy to do the dishes to be able to cook, but anyway.. whenever i've smoked 3-4 bowls i want food so bad.. i'll eat peanut butter out of the jar, and the bEST food to eat while high are "Munchies". Its a mixture of pretzels, doritos, cheetos, and something else i think... so fucking good.

Isn't he the one who just died from falling down and hitting his head? Wonder if HE was on weed at the time, just savoring his senses and not really watching where he was stepping?

or he slipped on ice. :winkwink:

I found this on a website whilst google searching:

http://www.cannabisireland.com/health_3.html

Quote:

In order to evaluate the impact of cannabis on motivation, Canadian researchers developed a study where subjects received cannabis in exchange for work performed. Even though it is not recent, the study is no less interesting. They observed that subjects worked less efficiently immediately after using cannabis. However, their level of productivity then increased rapidly and exceeded levels achieved during periods of abstinence. Although working fewer hours, the subjects using cannabis were not less productive because they worked harder. Furthermore, over the course of the period of heaviest use, the subjects organized a strike and successfully negotiated a ?salary? increase, after which they worked even harder

Get yourself some sugar-free gummy bears for after toking. They make GREAT Atkins stoner munchies!

I've been on Atkins for 5 weeks now (smoking herb non-stop) and have lost 35lbs so far. I've got another 10 lbs till I hit my goal, and have no worries about loosing them... Atkins works... and FAST!

Get yourself some caffeine free Diet Dr. Pepper and some sugar free gummy bears and you shouldn't have a problem fighting those sweet cravings too.

Good luck man, it's easy to loose them once you get started.:thumbsup

The one thing you got to watch in those chocolates, is malitol. It replaces the sugar, and the bars DO taste good. But Malitol also has a big time exlax effect on a lot of people if you eat very much of it.

I always look for products with Splenda (Sucralose): "Sucralose is the common name for the only calorie-free sweetener created from ordinary sugar. It looks and tastes like sugar, but is not broken down in the body and hence provides no calories. On average, sucralose is about 600 times more sweeter than sugar. Sucralose can be used like sugar in a wide range of foods and beverages due to its sweetness intensity, good water solubility and excellent product stability. Sucralose can be found in baked goods, drinks, frozen desserts, chewing gum, milk products, salad dressings, tabletop sweeteners, and alcoholic beverages."

Someone will probably find a link with some side-effects or warnings (babies born with 15 heads?), but so does everything else and it's probably the best artificial sweetener among all the alternatives.

caffeine acts as a stuimulant to the body, causing it to to produce glucose.

where do you think the energy comes from?

Some people react to the actual chemical of caffeine (methylxanthine) which is why caffeine causes headaches and restlessness among many.

Or course caffeine is a stimulant, but it certainly doesn't cause your body to produce glucose magically. It has to burn fat to produce glucose. It's true that caffeine may encourage this process, but it doesn't create anything.

That's essentially what the Atkins diet does. Once the body is deprived of all sugars (carbs), it must burn fat to produce glucose.

Caffeine is bad (according to Atkins) because it may stimulates some people's insulin mechanisms. This tricks your body into thinking it has extra blood sugar (it doesn't actually have extra blood sugar), and then you get the subsequent fatigue and cravings - everything the Atkins diet is designed to fight against. I have found this isn't true with me.

How Caffeine Affects Your Body

15. Causes your adrenal glands to release their hormones into your bloodstream

16. Causes blood sugar, or blood glucose, to be released from storage through the effects of the adrenal hormones.

i said, caffeine as a stimulant causes the body to 'produce,' i guess i should have said 'release' glucose instead.

:winkwink:
