Why is the GFY Search So Shit?
 

I am not expecting them to fix it.

It's broke and I expect it will always be broke

However,

From a tech POV why does it not work.

For example.

I know a post was posted yesterday with some very specific keywords in the title however if I search nothing is found,
If I change search parameters, nothing is found,

Why GFY no work?

I asked about this maybe 2 years ago, as far as I remember, admins did not bother.

And it is strange because it really discourages forum use (aka really affect traffic).

What I don't get its it uses Vbulletin right?

Isn't this supposed to be the dogs bollocks of forum software?

No the point of the thread. And it also does not work properly (you find SOME, if any, results only).

Huh? It is not famous for search function not working, pretty basic function for most scripts, let alone most famous ones.

The GFY search works great here in the U.S.

Apparently it just doesn't work for foreigners.

It does not even work with basic search (aka you only get SOME results if any).

First off, the version of vB that GFY uses is YEARS and YEARS out of date.

Secondly, the search feature has been played with a lot on GFY and limitations have been put in place to protect the servers from getting overloaded by those who abused the search in the past.

I can't swear to this but I seem to recall something about the search only logs posts that are "X" months old these days. As posts age, they are added to the search results. Again, not sure about that but I think I remember something along those lines.

They are diverting power from the search function to mine for bitcoins
