Let's settle this. What is your favorite, and why?

FTP CLIENT:

I use WS_FTP and have never had a problem with it. I tried Cute Ftp a while back but I thought it was a little confusing with all it's buttons instead of simple text menus. In WS_FTP everything is simple and very clear to understand.

The only thing WS_FTP doesn't do (or at least it's something that I can't do) is delete entire directories at the root. If a directory has a file in it (or usually hundreds of files) I have to delete those files first, then I can delete the directory.

Which is the best FTP CLIENT AND WHY?
The WHY is important because newbies read this and say "Cute FTP" and never say WHY??

If it's good, tell me why it's good, so I'll know.

FTP Explorer is simple, efficient, but somewhat limited.

WS FTP Pro is the best.

If you want the fastest FTP, go with Bulletproof FTP.

Fast transfers.

NetRodent 04-26-2003 02:21 PM

Why anyone uses an insecure methods like plain ftp is beyond me. The only time to use standard ftp is for downloading from public archives.

SmartFTP. It's similar to CuteFTP PRO but it's free!

Jakke PNG 04-26-2003 02:43 PM

Cute FTP pro, because I've used it for an eternity.. and then some.

WS FTP

I like WS_FTP myself. Easier to use and set up than most. I do wish it deleted all the directory files at the root, though. Perhaps we should look into nagging their creators about it.

Ok, so then what's the alternative?
I've only ever used WS_FTP. Explain the alternatives. I've never used Telnet or whatever.

We're on a T1 so speed is not an issue. We upload faster than a premature ejaculator at a gang bang.

I agree Leap FTP is great.

Among other things, it has great "skip lists", it let's you choose your editors, it lets you define what file type are binary or ACSII, it can change case on uploads and downloads, it has nice que features, it can rename extensions and it is generally easy to work with. You can chmod and view properties of files, change your views, mkdir, and move file & dirs.

Basically it does everthing I need it to do . . .

WS_FTP does all that as well. I'm not sure what a Skip List is or why I would need to choose an editor.

People have been saying Bullet Proof FTP, but no one says why. Newbies I guess, and they don't know how to work it, maybe.

Anyone care to elaborate on BulletProof? Other than it's fast. We're on a T1. Speed is not an issue.

What version of WS_FTP are you using? I have been using the PRO version forever and i'll never switch to anything else.

Attn Redshoe!! In the PRO version, there is another tab in the View>Options menu. In that tab is a checkbox for "Allow deletion of non-empty folders". I think that is what you are looking for.

:2 cents:

GotGauge 04-26-2003 05:12 PM

wsftp pro
Deletes files at the root.
If it is an Open file like a log file being used, it will not delete it.
Peace

That must be it. I knew it was in there somewhere.
