I know a guy who's a complete prick,
(actually I know many)...
but this specific guy loves the White Stripes, so naturally I hate them.

beemk 04-26-2003 12:20 PM

they're from here. i dont listen to them, but they are pretty popular here.

notion 04-26-2003 12:27 PM

The drummer is hott. :2 cents:

They always seem to have really nice videos, I forget the name of the song (their first 'hit'), the video was all legos. It was amazing :)

i thought they were from UK

Sarah_Jayne 04-26-2003 12:32 PM

yet another american band that had to come to the UK to make it big. They are huge over here..over the last year or so they have been possibly the most hyped band in the music press. I rather like Seven Nation Army. I keep telling myself they are just over hyped wankers but yet I find myself tapping along to their stuff.

The more impressive thing about this album is the minimalist approach they took to producing it. It was all recorded in the UK in a studio where all of the equipment is cira 1960's or something like that. Only cost a couple grand to make the record and it is currently the #1 album in the UK, I think. Talk about return on investment.

well I bet if you asked most British people they wouldn't know who they are either because most British people listend to shite like Atomic Kitten and Sclub-fucking-7 but amongst the rock music buying public in the UK and particularly the music press (who are just a much up their own asses as you might think - especially the NME) they are certainly the new darlings. The Hives and the Strokes were riding the same wave over here last year but have sort of slid out of view. The Yeah-Yeah- Yeahs are getting the same kind of buzz right now but we shall see.

The singer needs to take linguistics classes. I have no clue what he is saying when he sings. Other than that, they're pretty good.

Yeah, their performance at the MTV Music Awards a couple months back or so was weird.

I don't particularly like music where the lead singer "mumbles".

Sarah_Jayne 04-26-2003 01:31 PM

well that is part of their style...it is the blues aspect of it.

And there's no Diamond Dave after Van Halen. Oh wait, I forgot about "Just a Gigolo." Bozy-bozy-bop, diddy-diddy-bop.

cherrylula 04-26-2003 01:38 PM

dude, Dave's probably drunk right now. :glugglug

fuck the hives, the strokes, and the white stripes. i dont like any of them. ;)

i listen to Gluecifer and The Refused, the bands these kids mimicked... people need to realize who these punk kids were trying to be.

The Hives and the like studied a band called The Refused and tried to mimick them, even down to the dance moves like James Brown during singing. Its putrid to not give respect wheres due. Kids who like a band trying to be that band, its not talent, its called mimmicking. ;)

just because MTV got it, doesnt make it cool.

i hate when bands mimick and get recognition.

The Refused and the Hives are from the same place, the Refused started to blow up so The Hives started to mimick.

fact is fact.

history is history.

look it up, release dates tell it all.

:winkwink:

Sarah_Jayne 04-26-2003 01:44 PM

the only thing good I will say in particular about the Hives is that they know how to play an audience. I saw them at an outdoor fest last summer and whilist I wasn't all that overly impressed with the music they did a very good show and kept the massive audience on their toes.

The Truth Hurts 04-26-2003 01:51 PM

would that be "new noise" refused, or some other refused?

cuz new noise sounds just like it could have come from 3500 other frequently labled "nu-metal" bands.

The Truth Hurts 04-26-2003 02:01 PM

The Truth Hurts 04-26-2003 02:46 PM

The wite Stripes are great! Love 'em. Have all their albums :thumbsup

They played a concert here in Oslo about a year ago and that's one of the best concerts I've ever been at. If you have a chance to see them live you better go, they're fucking awsome!

They'll play in Oslo again on May 14th. Tickets are already bought, and countdown has started :glugglug
