Getting my laptop repaired. Should I be worried?

My cooling fan broke recently. I knew it had broken due to a rattle inside and the fact that I couldn't turn the PC on without a windows warning telling me it was dangerous to proceed.
Knowing nothing about laptop repair I googled laptop repair and went with one of the top results.
Took it in and the guy mumbled something about doing full diagnostics on the hard drive. Said something like his customers like a backup...

Walked out of there wondering what exactly he was going to do.
I made a point of saying it's just the cooking fan. Everything else is fine.

Should I be worried?.

Will he clone my HD?

What the hell was the reason for leaving it with some duffoon who couldn't even listen to what is the issue
You'll be lucky if the bill isn't eleven times what the laptop is worth over there
If he tries to hold hostage your computer and or data bring plenty of money along or a baseball bat

You can trust a computer tech as much as anyone else. Be prepared to get fucked.

:( changing a fan on a laptop doesn't take more then 20-30 minutes. fan price is between $5-$25 depending on your laptop. youtube videos are your friend.

Yeah on some laptops a blind folded chimp could do this
On some other ones you'd be better off just throwing it the fuck out of the God damned fucking damned WINDOW

Agreed, I've always thought it a useful skill to know how to repair your computer. Same with general tech issues. Maybe a lesson for future, save you from worry if nothing else.

My personal policy on having computers repaired... if I can't do the fix myself, I get a new machine. Period.

Nobody will ever screw around with my shit but me.

Depends on the laptop, some old thinkpads, well... it was taking me like an hour on speed mode 50 screws or more involved, cpu had to be treated with new thermo paste, old one had to be cleaned off.

But yeah, I prefer to do everything myself, it's cool to learn how to do things by yourself and it's more safe too.
