best free toplist script?

I have decided to attempt the creation of a toplist niche site.

I though I would ask the group for advice. I have my own servers and would host the site myself. I belong to three toplist right now and realize the owners generate a great deal of traffic for them selves and their sponsors.

Thanks as always for your humor and help.

A toplist may very well be your best bet, but don't expect too much. Toplists have become less popular over the past few years for a number of reasons, such as that they most often have little to offer to surfers (less bookmarkers = less traffic, less clicks = less traffic) and that they are a popular target for cheaters.
A linksite with toplist functionality might be a better idea (a link directory which on the backend ranks all links according to the traffic they send, but also has good descriptions and such, and reviews all links before they are listed).

Yes, that is the only way.

Make sure that signup is not automatic, it just cues the site for review. Review promptly, within minutes if you can. Send webmaster email "we've reviewed you, you're listed!" right away, fast service impresses them.

You've got to give webmasters a reason to join a new list. common reasons are that the list has google PR, or that you are sending traffic to it. (how much PR? How much traffic?)

Yup, gotta have traffic to get traffic. It's like money. Sucks, don't it?
