Anyone know how to setup an IRC server?
I want to setup an IRC server for a new project. Anyone have any URLs to instructions on how to do this?
Basically I want to setup a dedicated chat room using IRC. Hugs, Danielle |

I'd actually use ircd. It's a freebie.. It's compiled on a nix based system.
I've compiled DALnet's Bahamut several times. It's fairly easy to work with. http://bahamut.dal.net I'm sure you can find something there that'll help you out. :winkwink: |
asuna,
linux based. princess, Thanks for the links. Going to check them out now. Hugs, Danielle |
Let me know if you need services to go with it. I can hook you up there as well.
Yep, I'm a irc nerdette! |

There's conference room. It can be found at http://www.webmaster.com/main.htm
Considering the cost of it. ircd is soo much better. :winkwink: |

To start a room just enter the name of a room that dosnt exist. /join #mynewroom You can do this on any server Remember that as soon as the last person leaves the room it ceases to exist. You can get a "bot" to keep the room open - I think it is called "w" but I could be wrong on that last bit |
Some friendly advice:
1) Before you do anything, ask your host if you are allowed to run an IRC server on their network. Not all hosts allow that for very good reasons. 2) If possible, make your IRC server invite only or restricted in some fashion. Running an IRC server can be dangerous and destructive if it isn't done right, just thought you should know. :) |
Thanks for all the info everyone. Hmmmm. Maybe I don't need an IRC server.
I only need one chat room so maybe I should just find a IRC server that would let me add one. Hugs, Danielle |
