** ICANN Plans To Delete Domains With Inaccurate WHOIS Info **
ICANN plans to start enforcement of accurate domain name registration info by the end of May.
Under the new rules, domains with incomplete or incorrect records will be suspended for 15 days and then deleted if the records are still not amended. Time to get your domain registration records up-to-date folks with full and correct contact info. |
Xerox are you out there? :winkwink:
|
How the fuck are they verifying that the contact info is fake?

KRL, I see you promote ARS :-)
anyway, how they are going to verify this? - Can I speak to Mr John Bright? - I'm sorry. He isn't home. I'm his wife. - That's good. Could you confirm that he is the owner of the domain name anal-gay-fucking.com ? |

I'm thinking they might setup some kind of auto-dialer software with a voice prompt system and for sure will send e-mails to the registered e-mail address. I guess they could send verifying letters to the addresses listed also, although that would be a rather expensive process. I know a lot of guys in adult load up there whois info with complete bogus stuff just to stay hidden. |
Shit. I just checked the WHOIS info of my domains and realised i left out all of the international and local area codes in my contact phone number. Whoops.
|
OK, here's a solution for those who like some sense of anonymity on the phone number component of your WHOIS info and don't want to spend money.
Go to http://www.efax.com . Open an eFax FREE account. You'll get a non-local receive only phone number. You can set your free efax phone number to also accept voice mail as well as faxes. eFax sends your faxes and voicemails to your regular e-mail address and you get free viewing software to view your faxes and hear your messages. They make money by including a banner ad you have to look at any time you open one of your faxes. If you don't mind spending some dollars you can upgrade to eFax plus which gives you a local number and the ability to send faxes via the Net also. :thumbsup |

Maybe they pick randon domains out of the list...Which sucks, because now we have to provide all info, every fool can spam or call me.....
Hmm this sucks, can't they blank out email and telephone numbers? Because this sucks :ak47: |
Guys, I'm in the biz and I know the score:
Someone has to fill out a icann complaint form for your record to be challenged. There are now people who specialize in targeting good names with bad records, so they can grab them when they drop. As long as your email is accurate, you will get the complaint note from icann and you have a chance to change the record and everything's cool. If you don't have an accurate email, the registrar will try to contact you through a phone number or address. If ALL your info is inaccurate, the registrar can and will snatch it back from you and you are indeed fucked. There is a holding period where the registrar hangs on to it, and waits to see if you'll reclaim it--usually two weeks. After that, you are indeed fucked. The registrars all want to reclaim good names, as they can hold them for as long as they feel like, and have the potential to resell them. My advice: go now and update all your records now with accurate info. :glugglug |

If someone knowingly is going to do something illegal ( credit card fraud, child porn. etc...), do you really think that person will give all it's real info? They will have corp owned by a foreign corp owned by individuals fronting for other individuals offshore... On the other hand, the honest and law abidding webmaster or webmistress , believing that all he/she is doing is lawfull is going to get nabbed on some things that to most of us seems 100% legal. Ever heard of sites where husband/wife were fucking for the web and got charged for obscenety in a little " do not blink" US county??? Anal is still illegal in many county in the US ! |
I wanted to bump this thread since I was asking about it.
