XBox owners/modders, I need help

I need an extra harddrive for a second computer of mine.

a. What size harddrive does the xbox have?
b. Is is safe to remove the harddrive, partition it and use it temporarily in my PC, will I be able to swap it back in after a while, without breaking the xBox? :helpme

I know, I know, I could just fucking order a $40 drive online, but this one is right here and barely in use.

technically, you can pull this off... but i don't think you'll want to spend all of the time it will take to restore the xBox config... the partitioning system on the xBox disk is proprietary, so this wouldn't be a simple back-and-forth job... you would need to get a bunch of software to set up the disk when it was time to go back into the xBox. it wouldn't be worth doing to save $40 unless you were going to put a larger drive into the xBox (and a mod-chip while your at it)..

you can do it. you have to unlock the drive first with one of the xbox(mod) programs then format it.

fuck the trouble, I'll just get myself a new 250 GB drive and throw the 80 gig in my second box.
