Spam me with adult webhosts located in Canada

Can't seem to find any.

The nuts and bolts of :BangBang: 2257 is getting a little too sticky and will only get worse. Most webhosts are smart and will demand compliance.

I might as well take advantage of my geographic location and exemption.

You're going to be paying so much more $$$ that it'll probably work out to be cheaper to produce all the content yourself and make sure you cross all your T's and dot all your I's.

Dugmor 04-24-2003 09:13 PM

I think Manny the Freak is located somewhere in Canada !

Stashi 04-24-2003 09:15 PM

Interesting point. Even for non-adult webhosting the prices are jacked when compared to American outfits.

Not sure why you'd say this, I've found it to be just the opposite. With the exchange rate still up in the $1.43 per 1 US dollar range, American dollars will still go far here.

I've been hosting two sites with a Canadian company for 3 years now and I've saved thousands of dollars, not hundreds, thousands, over what it costs me to host other sites in other countries.

Gruffy --- why not just make your business 2257 compliant and be done with it? Hosting in another country isn't going to save you.... this has been pointed out by Aaron and many others already. Is avoiding a few regulations worth risking your business getting shut down?

And how much are you paying for a Mbit/sec? Is it off Peer1 or maybe the now defunct GT.Ca network? Anywhere i've ever tried to hunt down bandiwdth you will not be paying under 200/month CDN per mbit/sec even with a high usage commitment.

1 Mbit/sec @ 200CDN with a 40MBit/sec commitment = $8,000 CDN/

1 Mbit/sec @ 60 USD with a 40MB/sec Commit = 2400USD *1.45 = 3480 CDN

I dont know how you find it cheaper to be in Canada, and if you are paying <200 Mbit/sec i would love to know where!

So is Jactcontent, and they are fully compliant. This point has also been addressed fully. For those that are in Canada or other countries it's not about what country you are in. It IS about protecting your clients, of which are mostly in the U.S.

L0stMind 04-25-2003 11:52 AM

I run a Canadian webhosting company... and my advice is to get compliant man.

No way around the long arm of the US law.

The sites that I host on a Canadian server don't require that much bandwidth, so I wouldn't know what they charge for the kind of service you are describing. What I do know is that a smaller more common website hosting package for me is saving me a shitload of money in comparisson to the hosting accounts I have in other countries. I am paying about $35 a month Cdn right now for those two sites, and for one of my similar hosting deals in the US I am paying about $40 per month USd.

Doing the exchange, the US account is costing me nearly $60 Cdn, and the Canadian account is costing me $35 a month.

For someone who requires a big pipe and a dedicated box, sure maybe you are right and there is no Affordable Canadian solution for you.
Maybe. I don't believe you have exhausted all possible avenues yet, but okay. Let's assume you are correct. My point was that there are deals on a smaller scale that no US host has compared to yet, at least in my experience.

L0stMind 04-25-2003 12:05 PM

Well, the bandwidth market up here is different then down south.

You wont find the blowout specials for unmanaged services up here that you find down south. Up here you will find hosts that put a little value into their hosting...

Also, the network situation up here is different. You dont have cogent, verio, global crossing handoffs in every city and every 3rd building in every metro area. The few network providers up here are selling a very intelligent network setups (ie - fast, reliable and truely multihomed) and thus we pay a little bit more then the we would down south if we brought in just a verio line or just a global crossing line.

But, the speed and reliability have consistently proven to beat out competition down south for almost 3 years now. Sure the pricing situation discourages some potential clients who are searching for an ultra cheap provider, blinded by glowing promises of 100% uptime for $15/mbps but I prefer to offer a product that I can put faith in and so my business stays up here.
