DivX Videos...

...since a while more and more Webmasters are asking for DivX Encoded Videos. I just wanna know if there are so many looking for DivX Videos or do you prefere the old, but good MPEGI Standard?

I have attached below a link for a free DivX Trailer. Will this be enough in quality? (Please, mention the tech. aspects only :))

As I know DivX is too much overpriced these days, around $1000 for 5000 of downloads. :BangBang:

Simple - encode DivX as AVI.

Are we talking about the same? DivX is a free Codec, based on MPEG4. Yes, you have to store it as AVI - nobody is realy using the DVX ending.

I convert files on my tiny UNIX workstation. The system balances so well I only know it's running because 30 minutes later a file appears. If someone wants to have some files converted I'm interested to test their opinion of the quality and compatibility. The software is geared toward the avi file format but no doubt someone somewhere is converting quicktime files with it. It seems to accept at least some .mov files.

@Kat
Choose a free Video edit tool and ad some Audio to the file then convert it. That will work.

Some great resources for Vids are
http://www.vcdhelper.com/ and http://www.doom9.org/
and I guess you will find easy a place you can get royality free music from

No, the video has audio, but i get an error message when i try to convert saying there is no audio :(
I've converted it from mpg to mov with no problems, but it wont go from mpg to mp4 or mov to mp4 :mad:

Nope, DivX isn't free for the commecial use - http://www.divx.com/divx/licensing/#com and my friend had already some legal troubles with them :(

I think there is no real alterntive to MPEG-2 in case the quality is on the first place.

I was toying with Divx video for a while, too. I could not get decent playback for days. Then I downloaded something called the Nimo Codecs and all my problems cleared up. It would appear to be more trouble than it is worth now.

DivX is free but I prefer MPEG-1 since not everyone has the codec for DivX.
