Houston Councilman "Red Cross is Red Lost"

"Now, my last rant will be on the Red Lost? I?m sorry the Red Cross. Because the Red Cross ? if anybody wants to donate to the Red Cross, please call me. I beg you not to send them a penny. They are the most inept, unorganized organization that I?ve ever experienced. I?ve been in Kingwood fighting this thing and we have not seen one person ? not a single person from the Red Lost, yet every time I turn on the TV they?re receiving multi, multi, hundreds of millions of dollars. What are you guys doing with it? How many contractors are you helping us with? So, to this day, many days after the hurricane hit, I have not seen a single person in Kingwood or Clear Lake that's a representative of the Red Cross. You know who opened our shelters? We did. You know who sent water and supplies? We did. People didn't have cots -- we got them blankets, we didn't get a darn thing from the Red Cross. So, if anyone wants to send them money, don?t waste your time, don?t waste your money. Send it to other causes. "

What's your point with the copy paste?

What charity do you recommend other than Red Cross?

Or is this another alt-right "America is broken" thread?

It's a most charities are a scam thread including big name ones like the Red Cross who have lots of people on huge salaries sitting in an office not doing anything but soliciting more donations. I can speak from experience because I know someone on one of those Red Cross fat cat salaries. The only thing that I know for sure that she does is take lots of vacations. My little community loaded a couple of semi's and sent them down. That's the way it should be done.

Bladewire 09-11-2017 04:59 PM

Ok so you say don't be charitable because all charities are scams got it.

You turn every thread into a right vs left issue. Go back to your "other" board.

I Agree with onewebcam, these so called charities are mostly frauds. The Red Cross use just 10% of the $ they get to help people. The rest goes to pay huge million+$ to CEOs
The only way to make sure the help you want to give is to go to Florida and help out. And don't forget the most of the people the Red Cross send out to disaster zones are unpaid volunteers !

I volunteer at a food banks hands on. It's very rewarding because I'm there packing food for kids lunches and families. I do it because I see a direct a result of my actions. As much as I feel for the people in Florida , flying out to where the airports are closed and volunteering isn't really feasible for someone on the other side of the country.

Do you think GoFundme is a better way to financially help individuals in Florida?

The recipient gets most of the money on GoFundMe right? What about donating items instead of money?

If we are talking about hurricane relief, I would donate to JJ Watt's group. He set out to raise about $200K and so far has raised about $30 million. He has said they will make sure to use the money wisely and help as many people as possible. I saw a news story and not only is he personally overseeing this and promises to get the money/help to those in need, he has used his fame and connections to get millions in water, food and other supplies for free.

I think you are doing the right thing, you can be sure that the help you give is getting to the people who need it. I admire people who have the guts and time to go out and help others. Its easy to give money, but does it really help anyone ?

Items can often be very helpful. You can call local charity groups and find out if they have a shortage of some things. There is an organization near me that helps people get food, clothes, and other help and they are often looking for physical goods like shoes, jackets, food and things like that. Contact your local groups, see what they need, then go get it. That way you know your money is going directly towards something that will help someone and not into the pocket of an executive or publicist.

Sure sure, most charities are a scam.

A few years ago we had a house fire two blocks over. While the house was still on fire the Red Cross showed up. They gave the family a voucher to stay at a local hotel (Brand new Holiday Inn Express) and backpacks for everyone in the family with stuff they will need for the next few days - socks, underwear, toothbrush, toothpaste, etc...

It was amazing how quickly they arrived and they had everything pre-arranged.

Onewebcam and all the other right wing nutters get their info from conspiracy nutter websites. The conspiracy nutter websites are being linked to Russian propaganda networks going back into the election.

Right now now the Senate and House russian hacking investigations have shown this. Its why the state department is now about to make Sputnik News regester as a forgien propaganda agency. Why are they doing this? Because they have proof of it, sites like brietbart and alex joes infowars were being fed nonsense conspiracy shit from RT/Sputnik

Then dumb dumbs like Onewebcam run around the internet praising the gospel.. Stuff like this anti Red Cross nonsese is all coming from right wing nutters.. Its coming from Russia who is using dumb dumb right wing idiots to attack American institutions..
