As title says, James Mattis freezes the ban on transgenders in the army.

Serious question, if he can or has froze this ban, why was the ban put in place from the start? Does the secretary of defence have power over Trump when it comes to the military or is it the Presidents say so? Will Trump be lifting the ban later today, back and forth or does this stick?

That's because he's the type of man who knows that being secretary of defense means sticking up for your troops who are honorable enough to serve their country. It's obviously something the president doesn't get, when you see him trying to pull this shit for some political red meat to throw to his base. Those "trannies" have way more character than he does because they're serving instead of crying about a sore foot to get out of service.

Trump is unstable. In February he bows to protect LGBT from descrimination, the Trump discriminates and kicks Transgender (the T in LGBT ) out of the military by tweet.

If Trump's decision stands, the Transgenders will get a huge government payout on their military contact and be given an honorable discharge which gives them awesome lifetime benefits. Hundreds of millions of dollars.

Yeah, this is fake news. Trump's policy was to stop new recruitment and cease covering medical payments of transitioning members. No part of his policy involved removing already existing transsexuals in the military.

James Mattis isn't doing anything that Trump said he wouldn't allow. In fact, James Mattis is simply following orders. He's engaging in research to determine the best way to handle the situation, and will the advise Donald Trump on what should be done.

The media is literally spreading complete misinformation. Mattis isn't defying Trump: he's toeing the line and listening to his orders. Bullshit titles such as "freezes transgender military ban" are completely false.

The ban called for blocking new trans people from joining and it also blocked the military from paying for people's trans surgeries. The question is what will happen to those currently serving and, essentially, Mattis has put a freeze on their status while they research and come to a decision. This means the trans people currently serving will be able to do so for the time being and not be affected by the ban.

Will it stick? Who knows. The Democrats are working on an amendment to a defense bill that would either overturn this directive or at least make certain that those who are currently serving are able to do so without issue.

My personal opinion is that we will end up with just that, a ban on trans people joining the military, but those already in the military can stay and be protected. I also won't be shocked to see this heading to court.

These days? People just can't wait to sign up and possibly lose their lives in Iraq and Afghanistan...for nothing.

A while back I read a piece that talked about something that happened during George W. Bush's time in office that may have been the catalyst for this. After 9/11 when we invaded Iraq and Afghanistan, the military had a lot of trouble meeting their recruitment goals. About that same time is when the government launched a large scale campaign to create a "hero worship" of sorts when it comes to military personnel. The hope was that young people would see the great treatment our military members get and they would want to be a part of that and therefore join. I don't know that this is the sole reason for how things have turned, but it seemed pretty logical to me.
