What are your thoughts on Warning Pages?

What are your thoughts on Warning Pages? Is it pointless, or do we need to do it to protect our selves legally? Anybody know the legal aspects to this question? Or is it just a responsible thing to do to protect children from viewing the hardcore tour?

Gutterboy 04-23-2003 11:34 PM

yeah right.

Well when you think about it, by human nature, the more you say "Don't Look" the more people will want to. So although I think they are useless they might have some benefit.

stocktrader23 04-23-2003 11:38 PM

I'd say it depends on what is on your main page. If you have some nasty pussy filled up with cum I would put a warning. :2 cents:

i use for text content purposes and keywords. and that other reason

If you don't use deceptive domain names, a kid who arrives at your site is going to look at HC whether there is a warning page or not. He ain't there by accident.

escorpio 04-23-2003 11:43 PM

I don't know the legal ins and outs but all my free sites have a warning page. It just seems like a good idea. That way no one can ever claim they were "surprised" by the image of Justine pissing into her slaves mouth suddenly appearing on their screen.

You've obviously never seen the hardcore sites spammed on aol with stupid fucking wording. I get IM's all the time that say shit like "Here's my website we were talking about. CLICK HERE NOW" Now how is a kid supposed to know to expect hardcore from that?

Ok, so.. if you don't use deceptive domain names AND you don't indiscriminately spam your shit...

Better?

I was referring to sites that use affiliates. I agree with you, if there is no way to hit your site without looking for it what does it matter. Rotten.com is worse than porn.

I have a warning page and listed my site with ICRA
AaronM scared the shit out of me so I'm just covering my ass

stanton 04-24-2003 12:16 AM

i think they warn people!

twistyneck 04-24-2003 12:23 AM

Google food. :thumbsup

NetRodent 04-24-2003 12:26 AM

They're join killers but they make you feel like you're "protecting the children".

So which matters more to you? Money or empty symbolism?

I use a warning page for type in traffic . If a webmaster sends traffic I assume its pre qualified adult traffic and send it right to the tour.

I think this is pretty standard

austinth 04-24-2003 12:43 AM

I just add the warning at the top of my page, why make the surfer click more than they already have to. :thumbsup

I like warning pages.

1.) If someone ever does charge you with providing indecent material to a minor (or something), then you can show that at least you were trying. Good faith can help.

2.) Some link sites, etc. like you to have a warning page, probably to cover their asses.

3.) It filters out traffic that isn't really interested, before you get to a high-graphics page. Saves money on bandwidth, and helps me filter traffic to the right places.

If a child gets to my tgp by a type in then they are looking for their mum. im-a-slut.com

That domain doesn't really need a warning page. :1orglaugh

Libertine 04-24-2003 05:41 AM

Warning pages are great for search engine purposes. They also help you get listed in dmoz.
Besides that, they do help a bit, legally speaking. You can use them as proof you had no ill intent etc, signs of good will are usually beneficial in court. (the law would most likely also choose to get the easiest targets first)
And aside from all that, if you trade links with non-adult sites, they're absolutely necessary for a variety of reasons.

Warning pages are great for two things:
1- to put more banners and HPA
2- to link to a FPA and banners farm which then links to the main page

Once again, GFY helps out again, thanks for all your input. :thumbsup
