I get that "future" feeling pretty often. Here's how:
- I control the brightness, colors and lighting themes in my basement, with my voice (Siri + Phillips Hue).
- I installed some old recycled motherboards on a wall, added blinkenlights, connected it all to a Raspberry Pi. It flashes when certain tweets are received (NODE RED), downloads data from Seti and searches for signals from space (SETI@HOME), and of course connects to my network (Wifi)
- I can adjust my home environment, turn lights on and off, and view security cameras from my iPhone, from anywhere.
- A friend showed me his new Drone. Flies for miles, has a 4K Camera, flies to waypoints. Oh and like our cars, it can determine its own position in space by finding satellites overhead and reading the time signals generated from the atomic clocks they contain.
- What else... electric cars... self-landing rockets, self-driving cars, self-parking cars, cars with active collision avoidance, OH - and the discovery of new planets. ... AND working from home... AND AND AND...
There is so much FUTURE-STUFF that surrounds us now its incredible. I think the only thing we are missing are flying cars, manned landings on Mars, and the discovery of like of Europa or one of the other moons around Jupiter or Saturn. THAT would be the true future for me.
Cheers!
