Yoast making duplicate metas?? (wordpress)
Hey everyone,
I've been having major traffic issues since Feb and have tried so many things to improve. I tried moving to https but that didn't do anything, but then I found this Yoast SEO and started using that. So far it hasn't helped at all except that it does make twitter cards and those get a lot of clicks, other than that it's done fuck all. I don't want to get rid of it though because I pretty much only get traffic from twitter since google raped me in Feb for no reason. Anyways, I did some of those website audits and they tell me I have duplicate metas / descriptions. I took a look and couldn't believe what I saw, there is a lot of new metas with YOAST seo. Unfortunately, it looks like it's negatively affecting me. Check out this picture of my metas. The 3 at the top are default, the yoast ones all below and when I disable yoast they go too, but look at them. In total there are 4 different description metas but all slightly different. http://i.imgur.com/ED3DlLo.jpg Site audits tell me I have duplicate metas though, so ... any tips? How do I fix this within yoast? Is there a way? There's a meta description by wordpress Then there is a meta "property description" which is longer than the wordpress one. There's an meta "property og:description" exact same as above, no idea what it is though. and Meta "name twitter:description". All 3 of the yoast ones are the same description. Any idea if these are considered duplicate? They are all slightly different yet the same. Thanks. |
I only see one duplicated meta: meta name="description"
Did you added manually this meta in your theme header.php file? If yes, you just need to remove so you can keep with Yoast only. All others are normal. The og:description is used for facebook The twitter:description is used for twitter I dont see any problem in your website metas. |
og is for facebook twitter is for we know what. those metas are ignored by google.
I se you have a two descriptions - one by yoast, second is from other plugin or theme. check your theme setting maybe you have a seo options on it. tnx. |
Hey guys, thanks so much for your help. After reading your comments I went back into the wordpress code and found that I did actually manually add code to it to make descriptions. I had totally forgotten about that, thanks so much for checking those metas out for me, very much appreciated. :)
