Sounds like he knows he's guilty of something. Notice all this pardon talk popped up as soon as news broke about special counsel following the money into Trump's business deals and tx returns. He's looking for the panic button because this shit stain has done nothing above board his entire life.

Constitutionally its an interesting question actually I would say that he can't but that would be for the SCOTUS to determine almost certainly.

On the flip side I suspect that this is just Trump doing what he has done many times before and creating a big todo by posing a hypothetical in public in order to divert attention from something else. He hasn't pardoned anyone nor has he made any OFFICIAL effort to do so...I suspect he is just playing the media in a masterful way

I don't see this as him playing the media. I see this as him almost behaving like an angry child. To me, he is basically saying, "If you stick with your fake news, bullshit liberal media investigation long enough to try to pin something on me or my family, I'll just pardon us all, including myself, so you might as well just give it up and leave me alone."

Trump has made a career out of long protracted legal proceedings. Trump's federal class action suit was the second longest case on the San Diego docket, Trump dragged it out for 10 years. Whatever comes up, guaranteed, he'll drag it out as long as possible to finish his term and he & his team bitch all day, every day, claiming Trump is the victim.

Now if he was doing things properly, he would have an adviser look at his tweet and they would say something like "hey, talking about pardoning yourself directly after hearing about exposed financial records may look a little suspicious".

Now they have to spend time spinning some damage control, which is the mode this administration has been in since the start. POTUS shoots his mouth off and they have a triage department to prioritize which dumb thing goes through the spin mill first. And by the way, their spin mill is not working so well. It's amateur hour.

Actually, if they were doing their job, the tweets would never happen in the first place. One self-created crisis after another. What's going to happen when some real shit pops up in the world -- or stateside? It'll be like bunch of headless chickens running in circles. Starting from the president himself on down, this administration is a bunch of clown-ass motherfuckers who don't know their asshole from their elbow.
