Tumblr: Our policy regarding adult-oriented blogs is changing
 

Hello,

We wanted to give you a heads-up that we've made some changes to our content policies. Starting July 5, 2017, blogs that primarily contain explicit content won?t be visible to minors, people who are using Tumblr in Safe Mode, and people who aren?t logged into Tumblr. (You can learn more about Safe Mode in our help docs.) Everyone else will be able to interact with your posts as usual.

I tried to delete a Tumblr account this week and at the password prompt, it kept telling me the password was incorrect but gave no option to reset. The password wasn't incorrect as I was logged into the account at the time. I deleted all the posts, logged out and deleted the app off my devices.

Doesn't bother me at all. Will it actually "prevent" kids (mostly teenagers) from accessing the material? I highly doubt it. I think that people are going to eventually need to realize that this is the nature and the freedom of the internet in terms of how the technology actually works. I have absolutely no problem at all with safety measures being out into place to keep minors from accessing the material, but on the other hand, I also feel like the parents out there need to step up to the plate and fulfill their parental responsibilities, instead of relying on websites to keep their kids safe.

This was implemented on the Tumblr app some time ago. I don't know how long ago. But I was unable to access xxx blogs without an account when I installed the app like a year ago.

Someone really needs to create a service like this for adult webmaster..... Where adult content will not be shut down.

The issue is SE ranking collapse after they implement the login wall for adult. All of Tumblrs adult rankings will disappear if they don't have a strategy for SE indexing the adult content then returns on Tumblr traffic will dramatically decrease.

Verizon owns Tumblr now so nobody will really know the actual reason for the new safe mode wall until July 5th and the following month or so.

Why Tumblr's new "safe mode" is a bigger deal than you think

On the positive side the new Tumblr app Cabana (below) is a new adult revenue stream if you think about

Tumblr's social video watching app Cabana is now available on Android

Because it would not be hard to incorporate that into a new api I am working on ...

Incorporating media with live p2p webcams is not that hard.

We do it here i.e. the live political threads, funny clips, etc. People do it on Facebook and this kind of interaction is what cam sites are built on too (guys talking to each other about the model etc.), just a slight variation ;)

The problem is how in this "google hates porn" era is hard to make seo strong free blog service as thumbloger used to be. Only way to accomplish that, is to make mainstream free blog service which will be able to get some mainstream backlink juice and then allow porn on it.

That's not the only way, there's another more productive way to do it. People just need to think hard, see where things are headed, what the SEO platforms are, and adjust accordingly.

Advertising is a buyers market now.
