Ben Johnson wants Carl Lewis stripped of '88 gold

Hypocrisy at its finest. As if dignity and truth were ever respected by the IOC.

Ben Johnson wants Carl Lewis stripped of '88 gold

CBC SPORTS ONLINE - Disgraced Canadian sprinter Ben Johnson wants Carl Lewis stripped of the 100 metre gold medal from the 1988 Seoul Olympics, in light of accusations that American officials allowed him to compete despite positive drug tests.

Earlier this week, Dr. Wade Exum, the former United States Olympic Committee director for drug control, released more than 30,000 pages of documents that show Lewis was one of more than 100 U.S. athletes who failed tests that would have disqualified them at the Olympics but were reinstated after it was decided the drug use was "inadvertent."

"Ben was not the only one on drugs -- they were all taking drugs, there was no difference," Johnson's manager, Morris Chrobotek, told the Sydney Morning Herald.

"Carl Lewis should now have his medal taken away from him, like Ben did, and he has to come out and express what really happened.

Chrobotek also said that Johnson plans to launch a lawsuit against U.S. officials who participated in the alleged cover-up.

"But the officials should be jailed and dismissed and we will be suing them for what they did -- where are the test results and who made the decision? The system has to be run with integrity and everybody treated equally."

According to Exum, Lewis, who won nine Olympic gold medals in his career, tested positive three times for small amounts of banned stimulants found in cold medications at the 1988 Olympic trials.

The USOC first disqualified him, but later reinstated him after accepting his appeal.

Lewis went on to win gold at Seoul in the long jump -- and in the 100m after Johnson was disqualified for using steroids.

The U.S. Olympic Committee has denied that drug cases were handled improperly.

I would do the same...

Especially since Lewis was pissing at Johnson mouth for using drugs!

Nice conspiracy try...there is a big difference between steriods and stimulates found in cold medicines.

Ephedimine is banned, asthma meds are banned etc...

Caffine is even banned (more than 200 mgs)

If you take a cold medicine chances are banned substances are going to be in it.

By the same token Ben Johnson and trainers were dolts. They could have gotten away with the 100m Gold medal, WR, OR and retired and made millions. Instead they did one last cycle through the olympics.

Most people in track and field are certain the current US 100m guy is juicing...his trainer is pretty infamous for it.
