Anyone MUDD back in the day?

Just out of morbid curiousity.

Ya know, Diku, mush, moo, tiny

I almost flunked out of school one semester cause I got hooked on a diku mudd.

quiet 04-19-2003 02:22 AM

sextoyking 04-19-2003 02:25 AM

We had Major Mud on our bbs system and users played it 24/7, real popular back then.

quiet 04-19-2003 02:26 AM

depending what time you got involved, do you remember the 'virtual rape' in LambdaMOO? hehe.

[Labret] 04-19-2003 02:28 AM

ahahah no.

There were some sick variations out there. The furry fetish people had their own where you could do all sorts of freak shit. I think they still keep mudding alive. I havent tried to connect to one in years. Are there any real large active ones still out there? I spent a couple years on MEATMud.

quiet 04-19-2003 02:37 AM

no idea about any current ones still around. the word mudd sends me back to 94-95-96.

Whoa....what?

Tipsy 04-19-2003 02:50 AM

I met the wife in a MUD. Not something I admit to too much 'cause it's a little like saying you listen to Rolf Harris records or you like s club 7.

LuSiD 04-19-2003 02:51 AM

I loved MUDs. A few years back, I ran a CircleMud called "Eyedentity" with about 10000 lines of my own altered/added code. I got bored with it eventually and hosting bills for a server that basically couldn't be used for anything other than that (50-60 users at any one time was too much for it) just wasn't worth it.

I lost the code due to Monkey B virus. :-(

gothweb 04-19-2003 03:21 AM

I was on a few. The only names I remember, sadly, are "Circle of Ourobouros" and "Genocide". Genocide was huge... might still be around.

dig420 04-19-2003 03:38 AM

Tiny MUDD back in my university days, like 90 or even earlier

See my post above. Large, active - no fetish people though.

LadyMischief 04-19-2003 07:04 AM

I met the hubby playing Realms of Despair ... we met when I started playing 10 years ago... got together a few years later. I still actually login to say hi to people now and again.

FurryMuck was rather fun too.

gezzed 04-19-2003 07:21 AM

Played "Medievia" for many years, then I realized what an awful waste of time it was and gave up. Lost too many hours to that game.

Used to play there too. Wasted most of my time on Avalon though. Hmmm...mind you I got married from it and we're happy so maybe not such a waste :)

Nasty 04-19-2003 07:53 AM

Played Renegade Outpost for years, had several lvl 50's

2 of my kids are severe adhd and they learned how to read playing mud's :thumbsup

TheFLY 04-19-2003 07:56 AM

There was one guy on our campus that would be on that shit all day and all night... and he would sleep in the hallway... no shower, nothing -- he was pathetic :1orglaugh

I noticed the guy during 2 all-nighters for some 3D raytracing project... I was scripting some animations in POV-ray... 3D modeling and animation with no WYSIWYG -- that was my idea of fun back then :) Of course my classmates and professor under-rated my efforts, but outside of class my fucking instructor wanted to collaborate on a CDROM with me :321GFY

StupidNewbie 04-19-2003 08:36 AM

zombie mudd

gornyhuy 04-19-2003 08:43 AM

Anybody remember a guy named Mournblade?

He was the king of mudders at college. That guy played all night long everynight. total addict. He was also heavily into gambling, go figure.

SilverTab 04-19-2003 09:12 AM

I played Achaea for a while....Best one I ever saw...Don't even know if it's in the Diku Mud family, it's mostly custom coding...I still logon sometimes to see what's up...
http://www.achaea.com I lost so many hours there...Still pretty active tough...always 200+ players online...mostly a roleplaying mode, there's a shitloads of quests etc...and the world is HUGE and it's all custom areas...

[Labret] 04-19-2003 10:30 AM

Damn, glad Im not the only one.

So now I have to ask... what class?

I was always a thief. As you could steal, see what was in others inventory, and could always get that triple backstab in first that would fuck shit up.

recall

I was there almost at the beginning on that. Can't even remember my characters name now although I used to use Tipsy a lot when allowed. If I remember correctly though the role playing was fairly heavy there so I probably use something else. When I were but a lad.... :)

Fletch XXX 04-19-2003 11:00 AM

nope.

Fletch XXX 04-19-2003 11:01 AM

but i [played the fuck out of some D & D and Cyberpunk shit.

Jakke PNG 04-19-2003 11:01 AM

I mush'd... I even had my own at a point. Then I got fed up.

TheFLY 04-19-2003 11:09 AM

What's the appeal of MUDD? Is there really gameplay or is it all in your imagination like roleplaying/dungeons and dragons? Is there some puzzle like Zork? I don't get it...

I was in the snake guild in achaea...kinda like thiefs...you can backstab, hide in shadows...even climb in trees and hang people passing below you...but their only defense is the venom they're spitting...

HPsWebHo 04-19-2003 11:38 AM

WOW....this was a major flashback......I used to own a MUDD

I had Mystic Realms about 6 years ago. I used to love to MUDD

jact 04-19-2003 11:41 AM

I used to play Realms of Despair, but my favorite MUDs were PK Europe and GodWars UK. I was into the player vs player stuff.

kmanrox 04-19-2003 11:49 AM

they didnt have classifications in MercMud mod we used.... 1000 levels, once you hit 980 you had to be snactioned by one of the 2 admins to become an Immort... i went from level 670 to 1999 with that payoff =))

el_greco 04-19-2003 12:09 PM

I used to play on an LPMudd called End Of The Line (EOTL). I did flunk a semester because i played so much. My biggest character was a Crusader/Paladin.

Good times.

Yup... Thief here also. Backstab ruled.

Did you get so that you could type in about 20 directional moves in a row from memory and get the fuck out of dodge without ever reading any of the text?

Pretty sad. :winkwink: but fun!

Thief, although I always had a spare mage and or cleric ;)

gornyhuy 04-19-2003 12:23 PM

Here's how nerdy I was:

I had a unix pipe program written that I could have open while Mudding so that if I saw other people mudding in the computer lab on different terminals, I could get their terminal ID and then start dumping a huge stream of random control characters to their terminal so they couldn't see what was going on in the game. Their screen would get all fucked up and the terminal would play teh "beep" sound over and over again till they had to shut down and move to another terminal.

OF course I'd let them get comfortable and then hit them again!

What a bastard.:1orglaugh

scooby doo as scooby does 04-19-2003 12:28 PM

Played aardwolf for about two years on and off. Used to have 300 or so online at a time, still does as far as I know. Awesome mud.

For sure. Some people used a script that just looked for keywords to automatically flee or one button to get from point a to point b. Forgot what it was called, tons of people used it. I was just a neophyte geek so I never figured it out. That and I was playing from a vax/vms shell. oh the horror.

think it may have been called tintin

yea, tintin. I used to go to market square and emote shit like "You wish your wounds would stop bleeding so much" and watch all the tintin newbs auto-flee out of ms

I used to use tintin to multi-play my warrior and my ma/cl/th at the same time, pretty much an un-stoppable combo with the right triggers.

With clients like Z-Mud you can code your own triggers...everyone are using them now so you pretty much HAVE to code your own combat system or you'll get beated pretty fast...
