Real question. Conservatives love to bitch about the school system in this country and say it is run by liberals who then indoctrinate/brainwash the kids. So, why don't conservatives take over the education system? Why don't they build more conservative schools and why don't they run for school board positions or become school administrators? Surely there are enough conservatives who want to teach our kids and be involved in the education system that if they wanted to they could slowly take it over and finally be rid of the liberal schooling system.

I believe conservatives have no real interest in changing the education system to reflect their belief system because it is an easy tool that they can use to wage the culture war and make their base happy. It's easy to say, "If you don't vote for us, evil liberals will run the schools and they will turn your kids into Muslims and force them to have abortions."

Liberals have their culture war subjects as well, but they don't play the game nearly as well as conservatives. If conservatives really wanted to fix the educational system in this country they could. Clearly, they don't.

GOPs tend to value building things as a measure of productivity. Money being one of the biggest gauges of success. so trump, in that way, perfectly reflects the GOP mindset of building things as a measure of a Man. small business owners are mostly GOP. they want minimum govt interference with the chance to succeed.

whereby democrats tend to not value success like this, they value success though how they help others. so jobs like teaching, science, govt. law, are more attractive to progressives than blue collar jobs. they are OK with high taxes out of benevolence of the whole.

I agree with your explanation of different career types. Different personalities tend to gravitate towards different career paths. As you say, more cops are conservative while nurses and teachers tend to be more liberal and so on.

I am, however, a little amused about how you say that liberals are uglier than Trump which by default means uglier than the GOP. Sure, liberals call Trump supporters and conservatives deplorable among other things. That is too bad. It would be better if both sides respected each other. That said, it isn't like conservatives didn't just spend eight years calling Obama a terrorist, a Muslim and a million other things like libtard. More recently, anyone who didn't support Trump was a cuck or a snowflake. You do it yourself by using the phrase "dumb libs" whenever possible. If you don't want liberals calling conservatives bad names, you have to return the favor. Respect is a two way street.

I forgot to discuss the failing school system. The public school system is in trouble. There are a lot of reasons for this. No Child Left Behind is a major part of this. Under No Child Left Behind, schools get paid based in part by how many students they graduate or promote. This means they have a financial interest in making sure kids move on. In theory, this means they teach them better and help them succeed. In reality, it means they just move them on no matter what. It is also badly flawed because it bases too much on standardized testing. We are no longer educating our kids and trying to give them a quality, well-rounded education. We are teaching them how to memorize facts and take tests.

Let's take my nephew as an example. When he was in 8th grade he failed every single class that year. He got straight F's and the school didn't hold him back. They said they only hold kids back if the parents want them to. His mom didn't so he moved on to high school and the grade school got paid as if he were just another success story. In high school, he failed half the classes he took then he was expelled at the beginning of his senior year. They allowed him to do a few packets of homework and graduate. So, my nephew, who can barely read or spell and who failed half his classes in high school before being expelled still has a high school diploma. When I was in high school in the 1980's that would have never happened. My brother failed two classes one year and he had to go to summer school to make one of them up or he wouldn't have been able to graduate.

There has been a sea change in society over the last 20 years. Parents now seem to be at war with the schools instead of working with them. Technology has changed how education works and many schools haven't adapted. Laws created by both political parties and created by people who have no knowledge of how education works are causing problems and many schools that are in lower income areas are barely surviving financially and have to cut back, lowering the quality of education these kids get.

So, if you ask me do I think the education system is failing, I say yes. However, I don't think you can place blame on one party or the other. Everyone has failed our kids.

Liberals make up the majority of teachers, no question. But many administrators come and go with different administrations. The White House and Congress have a lot of say about the direction of our schools and they have had plenty of opportunities to change things. The last thing conservatives did that was of any real consequence was No Child Left Behind which was such a failure many schools have been suing to get away from it.

The reason liberals don't want Devos in office is that she is not qualified for the job.

As I said, I am not saying liberals aren't to blame for the problems with our education system. I am saying that EVERYONE, conservatives and liberals alike, is to blame. If you think all the problems with our education system are to be blamed solely on liberals you are not being honest with yourself. Also, as I said, conservatives are free to change things. They currently hold all three houses so let's just sit back and see what kind of things they do to improve the education system in this country.

I understand that teachers unions give a most of their donations to Democrats. I am opposed to that. I am opposed to any group giving any money to any politician. I think money should be removed from the entire equation. Sure, liberal teachers' unions don't want to work with Republicans, but if Republicans pass laws to change the way schools are required to work (like they did with No Child Left Behind) the school will have no choice but to follow them.

The Republicans are in charge now. They run the government. They can change things if they want.

Here is the definitive answer as to where I place blame for the downfall of the school system. I think both parties share the blame equally with bad policies. I think Democrats shoulder most of the blame when it comes to allowing bad teachers to stay at their jobs or putting in place stupid policies that do nothing to help education and are more about social political correctness. I blame conservatives for doing nothing to change things. They complain and blame, but do nothing to fix.

We will have to wait and see about that. Eight years ago when Obama and the Democrats swept into power and controlled everything, the Republican party was in shambles. I remember many a Democrat talking about how with the Republicans in chaos, Democrats were in a position to run the table and stay in power for 15-20 years. They were even talking about how this might be the downfall of the Republican party. They were very arrogant and assumed they were going to rule for a long time.

Do you remember what happened? Two years later they lost control of the House. Two years after that they lost more seats in the house and lost control of the Senate. If I were a member of the GOP, I wouldn't get cocky. You never know what can happen.

You seem to forget all the name calling Obama went through. There was a woman who stood on the street corner by my local post office every day holding up a sign that showed Obama as Hitler. He was also called a terrorist and I personally know several people who still think he is a Muslim and that he was a terrorist plant meant to destroy the country.
