iBill New Cross Border Aquiring Regulations

Got this from my REP

I wanted to bring this to your attention before you were sent an email Monday.

As you are aware, Visa and the other card associations have classified iBill as an IPSP (Internet Payment Service Provider). With this, there are some new regulations that iBill must adhere to. One of the regulations deals with cross border aquiring. This means that as an IPSP, we can only accept transactions from merchants that are located in the regions in which iBill has banking relations.

Today, iBill has banking relationships in the US and EU regions only. Shortly, iBill will not be able to accept transactions from our merchants located in Canada. Hence: I wanted to make you aware of this ASAP. As I mentioned, communication should be going out to all of our clients regarding this issue in the upcoming days. In order to continue to process through iBill you will need to have a presence in the US or EU regions.

Long story short.....A good biller, one of the top 3, moved me from USA processing to their UK branch. I am Canadian. I asked one of the owners about it....am I safe from Visa regs. This was about 3 months ago. He wrote back and said "my best advice at this time is to establish a UK presence." He didn't say I had to, but advised I do.
I also contacted a processor based in the UK, about a month ago, and they said the same thing. In fact, they wouldn't even set up processing unless I set up a UK presence.
Personally, I only think it is a matter of time. I am still getting signups under my UK processor with no Visa fees, but....it is only a matter of time before I have to set up a UK presence, which as far as I know doesn't require the $750 fee, but requires a presence in the UK. And when I checked prices to do it, it was outrageous. Just my experience, yours may vary.

Sometimes I wish Canada wasn't a third world nation.

if you're with an ISPS you SHOULD already have a presence, not just a mailing address there. If VISA checks, you're fucked.

ibill......NOT!!!!!!

why not just use ProBilling who have real offices in Canada and skip the app fees, and the whole myriad of bullshit with the theives at iBill, etc. ?

Fair enough. Options on this side of the border are running pretty damn low, and its going to get worse.

Better get a Nevada office if you fancy iBill and unmodified free enterprise.

Shoplifter 04-18-2003 11:10 PM

The big huge question is:

If you are a Canadian with an EU presence do you have to have your bank in EU?

This is the only thing that really scares me.

Fletch XXX 04-18-2003 11:10 PM

'But how can you bring back the dead
And try to tell me you`re sorry
How can you live with yourself
Knowing

Got to be a friend again
Forgive me, can`t you see me in your darkness
I`m feeling lonely, less than zero'

rodme_him:

Where is your current address as far as Ibill is concerned?

If I look at the join page on your site (Assuming it's your site) Ibill says you are:

Your purchase will be billed as IBILLCS.com*On-Line Media

But it has no country of origin...strange..

hershie 04-19-2003 12:29 AM

Any Canadians using ProBilling?

girlsfilmed 04-19-2003 01:35 AM

I am Canadain, using probilling. So far so good.

HS-Trixxxia 04-19-2003 01:55 AM

The strange thing is that I called Ibill last week and they told me they could 'arrange' getting around this - but it's for a mainstream business.

Go figure.

P.S. the new character of 'trixxx' has no relation to me - not his views nor his site. :-)

Amen to that!

girlsfilmed 04-19-2003 04:49 AM

why would rebills go down the drain?

directfiesta 04-19-2003 06:39 AM

A bit baffled>>>

Tought that you needed a US presence ( which I did) plus the fee after Nov.15th to process Visa with Ibill.

Seems that versions ort as many as Ibill employess ( or what's left of them).

Current address is in Ontario Canada, I noticed that myself, so I don't know what the scoop is here. I had a lot of problems with physical address vs. mailing address, they couldn't get it right.

What is your experience with them so far?

Are they sticky about you giving them your SIN number, or do they just forego that?

Interlude 04-19-2003 07:42 AM

People still use iBill? :glugglug

Cindyff 04-19-2003 08:13 AM

Ibill died last year and all the players have left the field.

The only company worth talking to is Epoch

Please feel free to contact us about payment processing for Canadians.

Thanks for the kind posts Gruffy and Girlsfilmed.

:thumbsup

Elephant_Gut 04-21-2003 11:21 AM

just use Glo-bill. Great service, no $750, no setting up a US corporation and they accept Canucks, Eh?

:thumbsup
