Cow tongue & pig feet

Does anybody here eat those? I see them in the store all the time, but never heard of anyone cooking up some cow tongue for sunday night dinner.

kenny 04-18-2003 03:51 PM

Come on, nobody here dines on some tender yummy pig feet:1orglaugh

Yes I have tried pig feet souce before and its not bad at all. I'm not crazy about it because I'm not into pork anymore. I know it sounds gross but don't knock it until you try it. If it is prepared well its quite tasty. Its also great for hangovers. Most of the heavy drinkers I know here will order a pig feet souce after a heavy night of drinking. As for the cow tongue its a first I'm hearing of it but I know of a sheep tongue souce and its pretty much prepared the same way as the pig feet or a chicken souce. These are not choice cuts of meet as you know and mostly the poor an unfortunate would buy these because of the lower costs, but don't ever under estimate what a woman could do in the kitchen to feed her family. These types of meals and recipes were past on for many generations from the days of slavery up to the present.:2 cents:

I was just curious. It does look gross though, ironic how a side of ribs doesn't though:winkwink:

I'm from the real South...the durrrrrty south. So I've eaten everything from cow tongue to chitlins to tripe (the inside of a cow's stomach) to pig's feet and oxtails. It's all good. Now that I don't eat pork anymore. i don't really gt down with a lot of that. But my mother still throws down all that in the kitchen. Come to my mom's house for Thanksgiving...she can feed you some real freaky shit. :)

I only see it in grocery stores in the south, up north no signs of pig feet or cow tongue

More or less customary. Branding of the meat portions. Rib good feet bad. Ironic and amazing what the human mind perceives as good or bad, right or wrong , pretty or ugly, gross or delicious. Most of us can consume just about anything , its all in our minds. Take for instance Budweiser beer, everyone knows its shit but yet we still order it.

AdultNex 04-18-2003 04:12 PM

I've had pig feet before, it's pretty good as an Asian cuisine dish.

It just tastes like beef shank.

kenny 04-18-2003 04:12 PM

However, I was eating some beef jerky which I found out later to be bear meat. Some countries people eat things like eyeballs and animal nuts, anyone dine on these?:Graucho

It's just custom. Americans don't have these type of things in their diet, therefore, they think it's disgusting-- Even though they've never tasted it.

It's just fast-food everyday for the average American.

Jerky is cooked leftovers scraped off the kill and/or cut floor.

I still eat it.

Fuck it...you get as much fucking meat as a chicken wing. Its the same...you spend your time scraping the fried bits off the little chicken kneecap.

Cow tongue is one of my favorite types meat.. Delicious!! Especially the back part of it is the best. The tip has kind of a different taste.

I've eaten sheep feet before but never tried pig's. It tastes pretty good too.

If you keep worrying about what a food actually is and refuse to eat it just for that reason, you'll be missing a lot and i feel sorry for you.

I've tasted many other extra-ordinary type of foods and of course i didnt like every single one of them but there are also very unique tastes you won't find anywhere else. You can't eat this kinda stuff all the time because your body may not be really used to it.. But it is always worth it to try and taste some different food every once in a while; its good for culture.

I love the soup made from the cow stomach. And the grill made from the intestines of a sheep. yum! Chicken heart is also great.

Stuff that i tasted and didnt like are, sheep brain, liver and goat balls (yes, i ate goat balls once).

Actually there is a pack of cow stomach sitting in my freezer right now... wonder if i should cook it sometime soon :Graucho

I grew up in the South, too, so yes, I've had pickled pigs feet. Also squirrel brains. And after we moved to South Texas, I had tripas, which I love, especially if it's in menudo. And I used get tacos every morning at the gas station before work, and one time the guy at the counter told me I was the only gringo/gringa he'd ever seen who ordered the chicaronne tacos. Mmmm, pig skin with hot peppers all wrapped up in a flour tortilla...:thumbsup
